FREEP THIS POLL ***PING!*** FRmail me if you want to be added or removed from the Fearless Poll-Freeping Freepers Ping list. And be sure to ping me to any polls that need Freepin', if I miss them. (looks like a medium volume list) (gordongekko909, founder of the pinglist, stays on the list until his ghost signs up for the list)
I guess I don’t mind paying them as long as we toast them after the hostage is recovered...
hh
Yes.
As long as payment is made in lead.
As long as payment is made in lead.
Darn, you beat me to it!
I can’t understand why the military wasn’t ready with a sniper and when the captain escaped on his own today the pirates weren’t all shot
put a couple of drones over their land based HQ which I’m sure we some idea of where it is and tell them, or else!!
My best guess is that our commander in chief has told them to stand down.
They need to completely destroy every village in Somalia where these pirates are based. If we don’t start killing them they will continue hijacking ships.
Only to stockpirates. :-)
I think we should give them an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D. C., to spend an entire day and night with President Barack Obama and his lovely family.
Wouldn’t that be swell?
“Millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute!”
Look it up.
yeah he was proabaly waiting till the FBI got there with a warrant and to read the pirates thier miranda rights..
That’s what we have to go back to. The wrong person is in the White House, though.
Let’s do a prisoner exchange. We give them Joe Biden for the Captain.
Don’t worry all you libtards out there. A day spent with Biden and they will PAY US TO TAKE HIM BACK.....
Happy Easter Everyone
I am picturing Joe Biden as the model for the kidnapped child in O’ Henry’s The Ransom of Red Chief.

No, but we probably will.
Since there is no law in Somalia, couldn’t we just go in and annex it and declare it the 51st state?
I know this is terrible, but we can’t. Bottom line. It will show us as very weak. No guanantees that he would be given back safely. I feel bad for the family and him but we have to see this through with military force IMHO.
I am sorry our navy didn’t blow the crap out of the lifeboat when the Captain made his escape attempt.
I agree.
Pay the ransom, get the Captain back, blow them out of the water, send a message...
I’d pass, have you ever met any Somali muslems?
I have asked about this before as my daughter has been considering a career as a Merchant Mariner, & been told the problem is that international law prohibits commercial boats from arming themselves; I have no idea why navy didn’t fire on em when the US ship captain tried to escape is beyond me—maybe their night vision goggles were not working?
Sadly, this will continue to be a huge problem till ships can arm!
Not to be off thread, but it reminds me of gun control—the law abiding citizens are following the gun ban laws, only the criminals are carrying and everyone knows it—so only the pirates are armed & everyone knows it. :(
While the hostage twists in the waves, Obama considers what action he takes..if any.... will affect HIM. He has to test the wind and read the polls while an honorable US citizen’s life hangs in the balance. Life is cheep for our president. More proof.
Yes.
As long as payment is made in lead
Tell them only if they take Barney Frank also.
My daughter, a Merchant Marine officer, Chief Mate, was a classmate of our hostage captain.
She did tell me, however, that her maritime academy has re-instituted arms training as part of the manditory curriculum. Something I was astonished to discover missing from the program while she was there.
Took care of the job myself.
Barney frankfurter would enjoy his stay.
The Ransom of Red Chief. snicker snicker
No, they may arm. But liability causes them to squirm...so they put electric fences at the rail.
“Interesting comment in the poll that the pirates never bothered a US Flagged ship during the 8 years of Bush....”
There’s a good reason for that.....
Er, didn't you mean 58th state?
I heard Bortz say the same thing yesterday, and I agree, in principle....
HOWEVER, apparently, as I heard later:
a) It was at night
b) He was literally in the water for just a few seconds--and the pirates shot a machine gun at him (so he stopped swimming)
c) The Captain is very likely under orders not to fire....UNLESS given an order to by the President...
(that would be the Carter-esque/Clinton-esque, democRat thing to do, right? Can't trust those wacky military types in the field...)
