I’ve been thinking about planting some, even though no one in my family smokes. Figure if I learn how to cure it, it might make for a good trade item if things get really bad. I’ve got a seedpod from an old heirloom variety. It was given to me by an old Hopi gentleman who said his family had been tending the same patch for nearly 4000 years!

Any advice on growing it?

Thanks, I’ve been working on ideas for barter items. I’m too broke to stock up on necessities, so I stock up on knowledge. Among other things I figure that people will always look for ways to feed their addictions. I’ve got that one tobacco seed pod that was a gift, I’m working on a chocolate substitute, I know a substitute for the flavor of coffee but not the caffeine (I’m not a coffee lover, would the taste suffice?), and hard cider is a cinch to make. For sugar, I have seeds for sugar beets and sorghum, I know where the maple trees are, and while my beehives need some repair I’m confident I can entice one of the wild honeybee swarms that are always near my land.

I’ve been trying to prepare as much as I can, considering I’m stuck at home in my wheelchair most of the time. It gets boring here.

Cripplecreek --- I'm terrified to open your link at the moment, I've got such major computer proplems that I'm doing everything I can to stay online long enough for this to post, and going to other links seems to be a major no-no for me for some reason. but I've got the link and so will look when my troubles settle down to at least a dull roar!!!

Oh, so right you are! I went a bit crazy yesterday with buying seeds. Other than adishes, I've never had any luck with root crops, but I'm going to try carrots (again) and beets (for the very first time) this year. I did come across a radish I had never seen before called Watermelon.......now if only the weather would cooperate so I could get back outside!
