The pair, parents to 2-month-old son Tripp, broke up 'a few weeks ago'
Bristol Palin and her fiancé Levi Johnston have broken up, two sources tell PEOPLE.
The split happened "a few weeks ago," according to a source close to the couple, but it's unclear what precipitated it. "It was a mutual thing," adds the source.
"It kind of just happened," says the source, referring to the split. "I thought they would stick it out. But I think they can work together to raise Tripp."
Despite the breakup, Levi still sees the couple's son. Levi's dad, Keith Johnston, told PEOPLE recently that his son is a devoted and "proud father."
Bristol, meanwhile, is attending Wasilla High, taking a class to supplement course work she is completing at home. She also is considering enrolling in college next fall and studying nursing.

That baby should be given to a complete family.
I saw that coming.
Leftists are such low-down scoundrels.
Who thinks the baby will be an SCHIP participant? Two unemployed teenagers, how else would they have insurance for their child?
Interesting this outlet is not naming the “source”. The story is clearly based on the gossip tabloid “Star”, which claims the source is Levi’s sister. The omission of her name, and the Star’s abyssmal reputation (Britneys death and Miley Cyrus pregnant, were two of their many faux stories) tells volumes about the worth of this rumor.
I bet the Libs make a bigger deal of this than the economy.
HUH?... Depends on how you define "complete". I think the Palin's will raise this baby with much love.
I never thought too much of the baby’s father. He didn’t seem to be kind of person determined to be a good father and husband. Bristol can do much better than that.
On that score the Palin family will help where they can. That is what SCHIP is for isn’t? We shall see.
Gossip based on an unnamed “source”. I guess you all probably also saw coming that Palin faked her pregnancy and had an affair with a business partner of her husband... it must be true, because some gossip rags claim so... /barf
What could be more complete than a family with a loving mother, grandmother, grandfather, uncles, aunts, and great-grandparents?
Oh, yeah—the sperm donor.
Who cares? It is none of our business.
It's in multiple rag mags.
My first thought exactly.
Don’t try to bring reason into a circle of gossip tattletales.
Yes it is. I guess my point is, SCHIP for real minor children is a good thing. It is the sign of a compassionate society. SCHIP for 25 year men and women, is not a good thing. It's a sign of rampant socialism. Too many states have bled the SCHIP funds dry because they extend the benefits to people who should be able to purchase private insurance themselves.
Prayers for Bristol, the baby and the father. It’s sad this has to play out n the public spotlight.
AKA the father. Or don't you think one of those is important?
So? They are all still rags. Probably just copying off the original rumor rag.
Palin spokesman Bill McAllister says he doesn't know and doesn't plan to inquire. He says it's up to the governor to respond if she wants to.
I have to laugh at the Headline:
Bristol Palin's Pregnancy Was an Open Secret Back Home
What's an open secret? And "back home" sounds kind of "redneck" leading.
Yeah seriously I can care less if it’s true or not. Who cares, so they broke up, if they did, yeah, and..this is an issue why? Because it shows that Sarah’s family has problems like we all do..wait, and Obama’s past is squeaky clean right..yeah, let’s see what’s in Obama’s closet..besides the crap the media won’t reveal(Ayers, Rezco, Farrakan, Wright, etc etc)
Calm down it's just I remember what it's like to be a 17-18 yr old man-- there's just too many women to make your head turn. Near impossible to stay faithful at that age.
Shocker.
I’ll accept apologies from the defenders of Levi and Bristol’s “true love and commitment” on this or any related thread.
That said, it would not surprise me. Once they did not get married right away, I figured the odds of them ever doing so were not good.
But, the baby still needs a father. But for now, grandpa has been filling in, and can continue to do so.
Grandpas, and sometimes Great Uncles, do those things you know.
This girl is not married. Therefore, the father is not AS importantas if he were her husband, and had already made a lifetime commitment to her and the child.
She is very mature for her age—she has grown up fast. The baby has a huge, loving family surrounding him.
Many children are being raised by their mothers in the homes of their grandparents. These extended families are usually very happy, at least the ones I know.
The left wing blog_loonies will have a field day!
Why can’t they let the kids alone?
Yes, but what does that do for the poor illegitamate child?
Because Bristol keeps opening her mouth with cameras around.
Everytime Bristol shoots off her mouth, Palin’s social conservatism looks just a little more “naive,” as she put it.
The MSM will publish every frame of this trainwreck as it unfolds; that’s just the nature of the beast.
A good man will take the baby as his own.
But you had to read the story..;) just the same. As did I. The sources say his sister made the statement (above). Bristol Palin and fiance, Levi Johnston, have broken up after she referred to his family as "white trash!," his sister dished to Star magazine
. Sister source again from New York Daily News.
>>Depends on how you define “complete”. I think the Palin’s will raise this baby with much love. <<
Great. But you know what a baby needs? A mom and a dad.
It’s been too long that the Pro-Life movement has cheered when a girl makes a mistake then keeps the baby.
When do we start saying “the baby would be better off with a mom, a dad and two sets of Grandparents” instead of “Grandma and Grandpa will raise the kid”
Sorry if that’s offensive. Those of us who want to adopt see things differently.
Who are you to decide that?!
Why would he not sire his own?
“Yes it is. I guess my point is, SCHIP for real minor children is a good thing. It is the sign of a compassionate society.”
you know, if the govt wasn’t spending zillions of dollars on handouts for people who don’t really need it, we would have more money for the truly poor who are simply incapable of caring for themselves.
Monogamy, marital chastity and fidelity ARE the conservative positions.
This shouldn’t be controversial here; it’s amazing how quickly standards go out the window when we want to like the perps.
LARRY SINCLAIR!
LLS
>>AKA the father. Or don’t you think one of those is important? <<
A father is VERY important.
A married mother to the father is extremely important.
If the mother can’t provide that, give the baby to a family that can.
Or so you hope... Wait until SarahPAC releases it's funds raised and Palin tours the US to prop up conservative candidates. Then you can see where she is going, despite your squalid wishes for her to fail.
Was the sister of her fiance..as quoted..not Bristol. Give the girl a break. I have my own values as a conservative, and some I read here I find are a real turn off to truly good people who would vote Republican as most of us are "living" in reality while others live in their private oasis of a fantasy party.
“Monogamy, marital chastity and fidelity ARE the conservative positions.”
it is not enough to simply be “pro-life.” After all, Ceausescu was also against abortion and Romania was overrun with orphan zombies.
The quickest way to screw a situation up is to let a politician anywhere near it.
Regardless, this household doesn't have Palin family values.
I'm sorry, but I am so sick of people on FR advocating taking children away from a single parent environment and putting them with strangers. This sounds exactly like what the British government is already doing. I understand that yes, in the ideal situation, a child should have a mother and father. But advocating removing the child when the situation isn't ideal without any evidence of a lack of care, etc.? Come on.
I agree. Poor judgment all around.
