I recently ordered a gun (long rifle). Went down to pick it up today and was turned down. Puzzled - I purchased a new hand gun in December 08. Any thoughts??

Unusual post for a newbie. Assuming you're serious, didn't they give you a reason? Is there a reason you should be turned down for a gun purchase? Convicted felon, etc.? If not, it's probably a case of mistaken identity. I know it's hard to believe, but because of my name, some people think I'm a fugitive.

If you want to purchase a firearm, go to the dealer and ask why you were turned down, not to an internet site where nobody has any knowledge of why you may have either legitimately or illegitimately been turned down.

Here's how you get around it. Now that Obama is POTUS you've got to be a little bit more tricky about what you put on the 4473. So, do not write your name or SSN or the 4473, just write the following:

“I am an underage girl that is pregnant by a 42 year old man. I want to use the gun to perform an abortion.”

That should do it.

Not always. I had a planned elk hunt in Wshington State last year with two businessmen from South Carolina. One of these men has been in business there for about 30 years and has a stellar reputation. He also has a large gun collection with pieces purchased legally and locally. A few weeks before we were to leave, he went to a local Walmart to purchase a new rifle and the paperwork was “lost”. He re-filed the application and was turned down for the rifle with no explanation. I had him call the FBI and the agent told him that 45 years before, when he was a teenager, they had a record of a fight in which two Myrtle Beach police officers were hurt and my friend went to jail for a weekend. 45 years seems like along time to hold a file on a misdemeanor.
