I’ve heard [pledges to leave the country] from libs before. We’re better than that.
Better as in we might do it? None of the libs who SWORE to me that they'd leave if Bush was reelected actually did so. Then, when they'd complain about Bush I'd just ask, "Didn't you say you were leaving?"

I remember it from an old, National Lampoon LP called “Radio Dinner”. :-)

Where would you go if you left?

The secular trend for the US empire is down. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, if it meant we were returning to a constitutional government. But clearly, we’re heading in the other direction. When it becomes clear to me that the likelihood of turning it around is so low as to not be worth my time and effort to try, then it’s time to consider leaving.

I don’t think that’s cowardly, it’s just practical. My family comes first and if there’s some other place where I can take them for a better life, well, I’m going to consider it.

It’s not just zero and his band of thieves. I have a big problem with the growth of the federal government under the last GOP administration too.

If you have kids who light up the house like an airport runway- fine them from their ‘allowance’ for every time they walk out of a room and leave the lights on. That got drilled into us kids years ago, and we still do it. Don’t leave the doors open with heat or A/C on, and the refrigerator is a place of storage——NOT A LIBRARY SHELF MEANT FOR BROWSING!!!!

And, that will help stop global warming too! ;-)

My grandfather once told me, “Buy land. It might go down in value but it never goes down in acreage, and you can grow food on it too.”

I agree, but worry that Obama will demand that I sacrifice any land in excess of what the IRS determines is necessary.

Don’t forget black smokeless powder, brass, and some lead.

Since I'm still in my early 30’s I'll keep on making my investments in 401K, Roth, CD’s. History has shown that it will grow if left alone until I retire. My wife and I got into a little argument about this since she wanted to know what we would do if the stock market crashed completely. I told her we would have bigger things to worry about than retirement if the market went to zero and the government collapsed. If that happens the Kimber and his little friends would be our best investment.

We owe 8K on a vehicle and that's it for debt. We rent a home for the time being. We don't plan on taking on any more debt unless we see a screaming deal on a house when we relocate. The only reason we have a credit card is for my 1-3% back and ease of purchase. It also has a little more fraud protection than a debit card.

We are putting a baby on hold until this summer after my training program ends. After that I'm getting an MBA with my company picking up most of the cost. You really can't beat a quality education for an investment. Also plan on learning Spanish through Rosetta Stone. No matter how much we complain about immigrants learning English it isn't going to happen.

Beyond that we try to teach the kids lessons on the law of consequences, how to be a leader, to take care of family first, and responsibility. We pay our tithe every month and try to help people out when we can. A little prayer for a better tomorrow can't hurt either.

This is my first recession as a working adult BTW so take what I say with a grain of salt I suppose.

There is the Rat congress to endure as well. They are likely more of a concern actually.

Pearls of wisdom. Finally, maintain your business and household as a stimulus free zone. Do not buy into government entitlement pathology. You are the solution. Government is the problem.

Great Ideas to conserve.
Here’s a few more that work very well.

HOW TO CONSERVE POWER USAGE.....

IF you are “all electric home” put a timer on your hot water heater.
Set it to turn off 2 times per 24hr period. Once while your are sleeping (avg. from 10-5am) AND again while you are all at work, school or while the house is empty for several hours during the day.

30-50 gals of hot water will retain it’s heat for quite a long time. The temperature drop is very small over a few hours and the tank can quickly ‘recover’ in usually no longer than one hour. Everyone can still have a good shower, wash dishes etc. with NO effect to your lifestyle.

In the case of 220 volt HWH a commercial “Intermatic Timer” (brand name) will be required. You may have to consult an electrician to put one in. IT”S WORTH EVERY PENNY YOU INVEST. I watched my power bill drop 30% the first month.

STOP using HOT WATER in your WASHING MACHINE. There are now plenty of cold water detergents that do as good a job on your laundry.

ALSO....STOP USING THE CLOTHES DRYER....gas or electric. Hang the clothes on a line like your grandmother did. They’ll smell fresher and you’ll have a few extra coins to boot. Raining outside? Hang them inside in the laundry room!!

Yes, I am an electrician in the Solar business. These are simple, low cost, solutions to usage that I recommend to my customers BEFORE putting in P.V. Panels to further reduce to cost of the solar array installation.

ENJOY!

Here's another one for winter.

When you take a shower, plug the drain so that the water collects in the tub. Allow it to remain there until it cools to room temperature before draining the tub. Heat that normally would have gone down the drain instead heats your bathroom.
