Is it time to dump Free Republic?
FR | January 28, 2009 | Me

Posted on 01/28/2009 10:46:53 AM PST by PlainOleAmerican

Repeatedly, FR moderators have moved TOP postings related to current NEWS and calls for conservative ACTIVISM from the News and Activism section, over to "blogger's and personal" which has no traffic by comparison.

I fully understand Jim Robinson's original purpose in launching FR, to provide a community in which conservatives could get TRUTH not available in the MSM, information not available in the MSM and access to fellow conservatives so that we could work together towards a conservative agenda.

Yet time after time, FR moderators bury this information over in "blogger's and personal" and kill story after story, vital to the conservative movement.

Why?

Without a change in this policy, I am through posting to FR. The moderators on FR have less sense than the moderators on DU, where they at least work to bury the opposition, instead of themselves.

What gives? Anyone understand this self-defeating policy?

All you got to do is hit the "everything" link on the right.

That lets you see ALL the posts, not just news and activism.

As for dumping Free Republic, go ahead and dump it if you would like.
It's still the 800 lb gorilla.

I like FR, but I will admit it is harder for those of us who work all day to organize and become “activists” than it is for the opposition.

The upside is, we pay taxes and they don’t. Got to be some leverage there somehow, within the boundaries of the law. Trouble is, there are starting to be more voters who pay no taxes and/or are on the government dole than otherwise.

In summary - yes to FR, yes to more activism, no to tax moochers.

I have no complaints with FR and I think the mods do a decent job of wading through the crap....I know they can't please all of us.

My only complaint about FR are the posting police....smugly pointing out that an article has been posted before....

Less than an hour ago, I posted this column in News and Activism, for what will be obvious reasons if you read the column.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2173546/posts

Within moments, it had hundreds of hits and was fast climbing with people beginning to comment. Moments later, the traffic died instantly, and then I noticed it had been removed from News and Activism and dumped into Bloggers and Personal where all traffic has since died.

I then ran an FR search and see where someone else posted the same column for a different publication here...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2173565/posts

I don't know if they posted it in news first, or just went straight to bloggers. But I do know that a growing number of conservative news sites are frustrated by the fact that their works are dumped into “bloggers” and MSM leftist drivel is considered “news” on FR....???

I have had this experience over and over again... Why? As for sounding like a “whiner” - your screen name is appropriate... "one rude child"

Especially vanity sniveling spam-rants like this......

I can't imagine why Jim would want to keep the forum open to real and valuable issues, when he could flood it with garbage like this.

As someone who has had MANY of my posts corrected by mods and received a lot of notes from them (surprised I haven’t been zotted a long time ago), I can tell you their intentions aren’t to bury.. Activism is for specific chapters and events, not just a blog calling something to action. News is for credible news sources, not an unknown blog claiming to have information (see API).. I don’t even want to imagine what is involved in modding here considering the thousands of articles posted every day, but it seems they do a pretty good job keeping things organized versus just chaos.

Really?

Name the reliable CONSERVATIVE newspapers in America today?

If it isn’t on CNN or on the front page of the New York Times, it isn’t news?

On what basis? That I am right about FR, or that I have no need for folks like you?
