Going to my ‘Cheers’ bar this evening for a birthday drink, where, believe it or not, ‘everybody knows my name’. It is unbelievably like ‘Cheers’ in that regard. They have a ‘mug club’ where all the ‘regulars’ have a mug on a shelf on the wall. There are probably over a hundred mugs on the wall along the bar behind the bartenders. Mine is “Rocket Man”, and I am known as “Rocket Man” by everyone there.

Happy Birthday 2/3rds!

My brother just sent me this:

In addition to communicating with the local Air Traffic Control facility, all aircraft in the Persian Gulf AOR are required to give the Iranian Air Defense Radar (military) a ten minute 'heads up' if they will be transiting Iranian airspace. This is a common procedure for commercial aircraft and involves giving them your call sign, transponder code, type aircraft, and points of origin and destination.

I just flew with a guy who overheard this conversation on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai. It's too good not to pass along. The conversation went something like this...

Air Defense Radar: 'Unknown aircraft at (location unknown), you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.'

Air Defense Radar: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter. Send 'em up, I'll wait!'

Air Defense Radar: (no response ... total silence)

Semper Fi

Ya gotta love the Corps

"I’m down to making one kind of cookie at Christmas time, the family’s favorite."

Inquiring minds want to know: what kind is it???

Yes, ours was very nice. It was just us with the addition of my dad, his wife, and his sister-in-law. I was quite surprised when the SIL was on her best behavior. I was expecting her to say, “there’s nothing here I can eat.” She is famous for being intractable. But everything pleased her and there were no complaints.

It’s a thumbprint.......It’s very light because it’s made with powdered sugar.
Frosting has cream cheese in it.
Major yummy.

We also have leftovers...I didn’t make as much this year, and send a lot home with the guests, but there’s always a couple of friends who bring SO much of their goodies, and won’t take any home, even though I send some home with other guests, I still have some. Tonight we’re have people over for leftovers and what is left over will go to the trash and birds/squirrels.

And like Geee said, we know what January is for...seafood and salads.

That’s nice to hear. There’s nothing worse than fixing a meal and have a guest say, “oh, I don’t do red meat”. I about fainted when someone did that to me, after I’d marinated and Roomey grilled it...thank goodness it was HIS cousin...Then to top it all off...I’d done an Angel food cake with raspberry rumtopf...and she didn’t do sweets either. She was a unexpected arrival travelling back to FL, so we invited her to spend the night and rest.
