Hope you all had a good Christmas!!!
This weeks Sci-Fi thread: (Final Post of 2008!)
Fri:
9/8 - Stargate Atlantis - SciFi 10/9 - Sancutary - SciFi
Also on New Years Eve, the Twilight Zone Marathon on the Sci Fi Channel.
TOPICS: TV/Movies
KEYWORDS: atlantis; scifi; stargate; tv
Well now that Atlantis is coming down, I think this is going to be the worst ending in all of Scifi.... Just my gut feeling...
For me the best SciFi ending is a tie....
1. Babylon5: Sleeping in Light
2. Star Trek TNG: All Good Things
What is yours??

The future of Robinson Crusoe is uncertain. Not sci fi, but about adventures in a brave new world, people developing primitive technology, cultures working together. Quality show, a shame if NBC cancels it.

The worst ending is usually no ending, with more than a few shows being cancelled before they could wrap things up. That's not to say that an ending can't be worse than no ending but I don't think Atlantis is going to be that bad. What I really want to see is science fiction return to the "seek out new worlds and new civilizations" model instead of the lazy recurring bad guys and recurring secondary characters. The best way to do that is to exile the science fiction fan boys from the script department. They should be hiring science fiction writers to write science fiction shows, not authorized fan-fic writers. I think Atlantis suffered less from the Wraith than from Rodney McKay and various geeky secondary characters becoming overt
Mary Sues, though the warning signs were there in SG-1 in the episode "The Other Guys" and a few others.

Gaeta.
Or was he always portrayed as gay in the show, and I just never noticed?

Funny that I would be reading this this morning, talking about endings.
I taped "The Justice League" movie on the Cartoon Network the other night and got to watch it this morning. After 90 minutes, the tape just stopped. Apparantly, it overran its time slot, although I don't know how it could've wrapped up in just a couple of minutes. Annoying.
My friend, Rob, mentioned that it was originally on DVD, so I guess I'll have to rent it. Annoying.
As for real endings to SF series, I don't know. I saw ST:TNG end. I didn't see B5 because it was on cable at the time, although the season four end was pretty good.
The Stargate: SG-1 finale was horrible as far as finales go (I actually went online to find if there were more episodes to be shown because I couldn't believe that that had been the end), but they had their real finale a year or two earlier.
I can't think of other SF shows that I watch until the end that knew that they were ending so they could wrap themselves up. Quantum Leap was a little disappointing in its final moments. Gotta think about it.

Despite it being pretty much the best sci-fi show ever, Firefly had the worst ‘ending’ ever because it didn’t even ‘end’, it just stopped in the middle of some interesting plot developments. Granted, Serenity wrapped up a few of the loose ends, but there’s still so much more that was just left hanging. Oh, I hate Fox executives, they are SO incompetent...
Although, as far as planned endings, Atlantis is going to have to be spectacularly bad to beat X-Files.

Babylon five by far would be my favorite (in both series and ending), I just wish it would have ended at season four. Season five is just like season one, but a little bit better (though I will say, I haven’t seen Season five since it was on Sci Fi, but I spent all this semester watching the other four). I haven’t seen this season of Atlantis, but I could totally see them botching the ending.

I am. Maybe I don't get it but I think they're boring. And Gaeta is out of the closet. Gay Gaeta. How creative is that?

Anyone know when the new season of BSG is going to start?January 16th, two weeks from Friday.

Or was he always portrayed as gay in the show, and I just never noticed?I guess he was the most important character not to be shown with a love life of some sort, even the human Cylons have a sexual orientation. As far as I'm concerned 'Don't ask, don't tell.'

Agree with B5’s ending, although I hated most of season 5 (Byron and his whiny telepaths).
To: SeeSharp
If 20 is the last show of the series, then it was truely a weak ending.

Agree with B5s ending, although I hated most of season 5 (Byron and his whiny telepaths). Glad I missed it then. Not happy that I missed the final episode because it was on cable -- or for that matter, I missed it again the last time it was actually on cable.
Not unusual that the last ep of B5 was better than the last season. It was filmed a year earlier (part of the reason why I was ticked off) and the final year wasn't part of the original story arc. Oh, well. Best laid plans ...
