I am all for courtship (my 14 year old is being teased by friends because he’s not out trying for a girlfriend), but I am unsure about the not kissing before marriage thing. The article that bothered me most was one that said some of these couple had no physical contact at all before marriage. No hugging or hand holding, either. I am one of those people who needs physical contact, such as a hug. It seems unnatural not to touch someone you have some sort of friendship with.

I have not read the comments on this thread prior to posting, but I'm going to make a guess that somewhere, someone is going to post the “well, I'd rather try the shoes on before buying them” comment. In other words, we are going to be told that no reeeeasonable person would buy shoes, or a dress, without first testing the fit and to NOT do so is not reeeaasonable...or normal(read common, populist, pragmatic, trendy, everyoneisdoingit).

However, The analogy offered is a very poor one and not comparable at all.

The correct analogy would be...

Who in their right mind would try on UNDERWEAR, before buying them?

Or, worse yet, and more importantly...

who in their right mind would buy underwear that others tried on first?

Now see if the logic of “try it on before you buy it” works out so well.

...not so much eh!?!

Gives an entirely new perspective to the term "used goods".

...ok, now to read the comments

The article that bothered me most was one that said some of these couple had no physical contact at all before marriage. No hugging or hand holding, either.

I know of couples that practiced the no hand holding as well. Each family (and couple) is a little different regarding how the pursue courtship.

I personally believe that kissing is a "sealing of a contract" that should not occur until the wedding altar. Kissing beforehand can easily raise many more "desires" within the couple.

Many couples will wait until a betrothal is announced before they hug or hold hands. This keeps the "layers" of relationship well defined in case the courtship does not work out prior to bretrothal.

That's great news about your son! He needs to know that he is the normal one and not his friends. His friends are just practicing the ways of the world, that became much looser during the 20th century.

Good news about your son; keep encouraging him; the way relationships are practiced by many today (casual hookups, moving in together, etc) most people will spend more time preparing themselves for divorce rather than marriage.
