1) Deepening recession by the end of 2009. No recovery at all. DJIA below 8000.
2) Gasoline will cost more than $4.50/gallon by end of summer. Odds are 50/50 that it will be more that $10/gallon by end of 2009.
3) We will experience at least one large domestic terror event. Obama will under-react.
4) There will be several major skirishes/local wars: Russia/Ukraine, India/Pakistan, Venezuela/Colombia, Israel/Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Kenya
5) Israel will attack Iran. Obama will speak out against Israel.
6) We will not find OBL alive.
7) Temperatures will be far cooler than expected.
8) Tennessee wins the Superbowl by defeating the Vikings.
9) Rays win the World Series, defeating the Mets.
10) Actors go on strike. Hollywood has worst year ever.

I have no doubt that a job loss is tough on an individual (been there). Many people would like to assign the term ‘recession’ to some sort of level of hopelessness. Problem is that this is kind of hard to measure.
The term “pending recession” sort of acknowledges the collective pain while ridiculing the strict definition. Perhaps that is suitable.
There will be a new “Assault Weapons” ban by 11.09, and there will be no sunset provision on the legislation.

Don't worry about it. Zimbabwe's in free fall. There may be some other flyspeck country with something similar (if less severe). No one else. Any country (typically, industrialized country, or major developing country such as India or China) which relies on imported petroleum (pretty much all of 'em) will see a major turnaround in 2009, because crude has dropped almost 70 per cent of its peak price. There will be noticeable drops in all commodities, other than the panic-money precious metals and such -- and those will not hold their value. By the election campaign of 2012, Obama will be taking credit for the boom that is going on at that time, the US gov't current deficit will be much smaller, tax revenues will be up (with or without a continuation of the Bush tax cuts), and the first of the postwar boom babies will be 65 in 2011, and not worried too much about their Social Security. *
