Since there is so much right-wing blog assertion that Obama has socialist friends, associates, philosophies, and attitudes, I thought I’d take a look at the evidence and claims.

Leninist would be a closer description. Marxism is the path he is headed (we throw that term out a lot), but Leninist would be the practical description of what he is.
I recommend everyone bend over backwards and kiss your rear end goodbye for tomorrow we enter Obamaland and the United Soviet States of America.
I guess we should have guessed that it was a fool’s errand to pretend we would have freedom forever. It has to be earned and we, as a nation, just decided to march into the ovens.
This actually looks more like Barack Obama with a hole in his head. If this is the case instead, then it would prove that Barack Obama has an “open mind” about both thoughts and issues!

2. Senator Obama practiced Alinsky’s version of community organizing, emphasizing organizing to take down local governments in the name of the “people” - but Obama is not a Socialist.
3. Senator Obama taught Alinsky’s version of community organizing theory, philosophy, and practice - but Obama is not a Socialist.
4. Senator Obama’s mentor, Saul Alinsky, advised in his “Rules for Radicals” that activists work within the Democratic system and use democracy’s openness to diverse ideas to install socialism from within the system - but Obama is not a Socialist.
5. Senator Obama worshipped for 20 years at Rev. Wright’s church. The church’s Black-centered activist ideology is based on the Marxist political ideology of James Cone - but Obama is not a Socialist.
6. Senator Obama listened to Rev. Wright’s sermons for 20 years; Wright’s theology is the Black Liberation Theology of James Cone; and Liberation Theology is based in Marxist interpretations of the Christian story - but Obama is not a Socialist.
7. Senator Obama records in his autobiography, “The Audacity of Hope,” that he became a Christian while listening to one of Rev. Wright’s provocative sermons in which anti-capitalism and pro-communitarianism are preached - but Obama is not a Socialist.
8. Senator Obama is a friend of Liberation Theology preacher, Father Flagher - but Obama is not a Socialist.
9. Senator Obama is a friend and associate of Rev. Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the socialist-leaning, anti-Semitic Nation of Islam - but Obama is not a Socialist.
10. Senator Obama served on several boards with admitted Socialist William Ayers, including one that redirected Annenberg Foundation funds (intended for programs to improve classroom education) to non-school community groups that promoted socialist principles - but Obama is not a Socialist.
11. Senator Obama began his Illinois Senate run at a fundraiser hosted by Bill Ayers in Ayers’ home - but Obama is not a Socialist.
12. Senator Obama hired a team of lawyers and partisan activists to find technicalities that would eliminate his Illinois Senate competitors before the election, so that he could run unopposed - a tactic common to the old USSR and China - but Obama is not a Socialist.
13. Senator Obama attended and spoke at a dinner honoring Palestinian-born, pro-Hamas (a self-described socialist, Islamist organization), anti-Semitic Professor Rashid Khalidi - but Obama is not a Socialist.
14. Senator Obama has voted, both at the state level and at the national level, for the most left-leaning bills and programs - but Obama is not a Socialist.

Senator Obama has refused to release his lecture notes or syllabi from when he taught law at Chicago University; he has refused to make his college thesis available; he has refused to provide his medical records; he has refused to clarify the question of his birth certificate; he has colluded to keep secret a video tape of the dinner for Khalidi - in other words, Obama has refused to disclose information that would challenge the public image he has been developing throughout the campaign, in ways reminiscent of Castro and Mao - but Obama is not a Socialist.
16. Senator Obama deployed a team of researchers, private investigators, and lawyers to Alaska in an effort to take out Governor Palin (as he did his Illinois political competition), rather than compete with her in the realm of ideas - but Obama is not a Socialist.

Senator Obama deployed a team of researchers, private investigators, and lawyers to find “dirt” on Joe the Plumber because the Senator did not like the question one of his potential constitutents asked him - as though he should be respected and not challenged, like an old Politboro member - but Obama is not a Socialist.
18. Senator Obama told Joe the Plumber that it is right to “spread the wealth around, ” by which he means it is right to take the wealth created by hardworking, risk-taking citizens to give to those who have not achieved as much - but Obama is not a Socialist.
19. Senator Obama has declared that it is “selfish” for people who have worked hard, paid their taxes, and achieved financial success to want to keep their earnings for themselves and their heirs - but Obama is not a Socialist.
20. Senator Obama has said that he will not allow Americans to continue to be “self-centered;” that he will require citizens to volunteer on behalf of others - but Obama is not a Socialist.
21. Senator Obama has declared that certain reporters, newspapers, and TV stations shall not have access to him, his running mate, or his campaign, as punishment for asking challenging questions, and as a warning to the Press at large that they are to maintain a fawning approach to his candidacy (and presumably his presidency, should he win) - but Obama is not a Socialist.
22. Senator Obama champions the “Fairness Doctrine” that seeks to assure that private enterprise radio stations meet government-mandated standards of “balanced reporting,” rather than respecting media’s historic role as an independent watchdog and critic of government and institutions - thereby preferring the media model of communist and totalitarian countries rather than the media model of our nation’s Founders - but Obama is not a Socialist.
23. Senator Obama has said he will tax the rich to give money to the poor. His defninition of “rich” has moved from $300,000 to $250,000 to $200,000 to $150,000 to $120,000 to $97,000 over the last couple weeks. And in the past he actually voted to increase taxes on people earning over $42,000 - but Obama is not a Socialist.
24. Senator Obama wants to give “tax rebates” to the 40% of the American taxpayer base that pays no taxes - but Obama is not a Socialist.
25. Senator Obama has declared that he will cause the coal industry to go bankrupt by charging coal plants huge sums for carbon offset credits, thus allowing government to control and dominate free enterprise - but Obama is not a Socialist.
26. Senator Obama has said that our electric bills need to be significantly higher; that our high gasoline costs were acceptable, except that they went up faster than he’d like; and that the U.S. must use less heat and get used to doing with more sweaters, as people do in Asia and Europe (where some countries, like Italy, do not permit people to heat their homes until October, regardless of the temperature) - but Obama is not a Socialist.
27. Senator Obama has said that the U.S. cannot depend only upon our military for our future national security, but we must have a “civilian force” as well-armed, as well-financed, and as well-trained as the army - which sounds like the extensive “civilian” party-loyal committees that controlled neighborhood life in the USSR, and still do in China and North Korea - but Obama is not a Socialist.
28. Senator Obama has promised ACORN - the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, that embraces the political ideology of Saul Alinsky; that has been charged with voter registration fraud in now-3 national elections; that employed Obama as both a trainer and a lawyer; that has endorsed Obama in violation of its IRS status as a non-political organization - Obama has promised ACORN that they will be strongly represented in his Presidential transition team, to help him identify his Administration’s immediate goals - but Obama is not a Socialist.
Since Obama is so clearly not a Socialist in his thoughts, his friendships and associations, or his attitudes toward those he wants to govern, consider carefully how you will vote.
I thinks it's safe to say that if Obama had been asked that question there would be enough umm' and uhh's to put Teddy Kennedy to shame.

I thought I had seen where Gov. Palin had said Sen. Obama was not a Socialist, thought it might have been based on conclusions similar to those in the article, or perhaps her fingers were crossed. I though of a good molasses for that pancake but I won’t post it.
You are absolutely correct. Marxism is used often to describe Obama. Leninist is the better term.

This is kind of like the patriotism issue “I question his judgment not his patriotism”.
Accepting Christ as one's personal Savior makes one a Christian, baptized or not. Hitler was baptized, but I sincerely doubt that he was saved.
