A television commercial for an "Ahmed the dead terrorist" ringtone mocks Islam and must be withdrawn, the Advertising Standards Authority has ruled.
Its ruling followed a complaint by a Moegamat Khan against the GloMobile commercial, flighted on SABC and DSTV.
The commercial shows American standup comedian Jeff Durham holding a skeleton puppet with a white cloth around its head, which demands that the audience keeps quiet and says: "Silence! I kill you!"
The ASA said Khan had complained that this was offensive to the Islamic religion, and created the impression that all Muslims were terrorists who would kill to get people to be quiet.
The ASA said it appeared to be common cause that the puppet was meant to represent a terrorist who was a suicide bomber.
While it was debatable whether the puppet was wearing any particular head gear, or a bandage as GloMobile claimed, the name Ahmed appeared to be of Arab origin and was one of the names of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
"To associate this divine inspiration to a terrorist is offensive to the people who believe in him [Muhammad]," the ASA said.
It ordered GloMobile to withdraw the commercial in its current format.
Muslims being offending - I mean really, must we take this seriously - I don't think so.

It’s not the comedian and his puppet who are responsible for “creating the impression that all Muslims are terrorists who would kill to get people to be quiet.” Muslims who are concerned about this perception of their religion should focus their attention on terrorist-Muslims, not on comedians with puppets.

Why was this moved to the Chat forum? This is an article from a legitimate news outlet, re the action of a government in a non-Muslim country to silence critical political parody of Muslim terrorists.

Is anyone else having a problem posting? I click on post reply and get a blank white screen, back out and have to do repeat, then maybe I get the posting box. But, then after the preview when I click on post, I get a blank white screen, have to back out, then forward or click preview again, then post and maybe it will post, but sometimes its a blank white screen again.
Then like above, I was going to comment to another post when I got the blank white screen AGAIN then when I finally get through, it reposted the previous post. For me, this is worse than when it was just slow. :(

I started seeing the blank screen business about a week or two ago. I figured it was my browser. The problem does not always happen, but I would say it occurs about 10~20% of the time.
I did find an easy enough work around if you get a blank screen; just hit the browser's refresh screen.
Why don’t they just take the puppet out and have it stoned in the street?

It is easier to blame cartoonists and ventriloquists than themselves. To do otherwise might require admitting some unflattering truths about themselves. And they can’t have that.
So they do admit that a terrorist represents Islam. So much for all that whining that "the terrorists aren't Muslims".

Understand that this particular painting is illustrating much about what Islam, in its true nature, actually represents.Unlike Christianity, where one would not see Jesus Christ welding a sword and cutting down those that oppose him, instead the viewer sees a violent action occurring that is quite normal in Islamic society. The painting revels several points about the ideology of Islam.
First, the single attacker is being killed by the faceless Muhammad, as is the group as a whole. The Army, which stands in opposition in the foreground, is waiting or held at bay by the strength of this prophet.
Second, the representation of each single person, group, and army is more than what is represented on the face of the painting. Last, the painting reveals that no mere man can destroy Islam, whether in a group or large army. This tells us about what Islam has conveyed to its followers. The individual represents all men and their individual attempt in destroying Islam (Muhammad), the group represents organizations in their attempt to surround Islam, but are cut down.
Finally, the army in the distance is any nation that attacks Islam and is held back by the faceless prophet. In order for Islam to be countered, it must be a joint effort by all three groups. The painting serves as an important insight and intelligence value on how Muslims view themselves compared to the rest of the world.

The puppet is of the death cult that engages in global terrorism in the NAME of Islam. When the protesters take to protesting the "non-muslim" terrorists who claim Islam as their faith, we can back off on saying such things.

More importantly, if they would simply quit threatening to kill anyone (and actually doing so) who offends them, it might go a long way towards getting rid of this "impression." It would certainly be faster than simply killing everyone who has this impression.
