Ok, ok, I'm "Mr. Don't Trust Polls" guy. But, I like polls that show us ahead ;) A few excerpts, see link for full details published at Zogby International website.

John Zogby makes a good point. Obama has yet to really secure his support. Too many questions out there. Who is this guy? This does not bode well in the voting booth. Zogby states this may translate into a landslide for McCain. People tend to vote with conviction, not as a random act so this seems very reasonable analysis to me.

And I still don't trust polls, even when they have 'good news.' They have this way of pulling a Lucy/Charlie Brown trick later on.

These poll #s are important, fake but accurate or not, they set a perception of where things are.

The MSM is cooking polls with incorrect political party and race weighting.

This is more “all over the place” than was 2004.

If you go to Realclearpolitics.com the polls all show Obama up. Although it showed the Big O leading in NC, and I CAN’T believe that.

Well...don’t know if this poll is accurate, but I live in south central PA (just over the MD line), and I see FAR more McCain yard signs than Obama signs in my area. I’m talking probably a 10 to 1 ratio.

Pollsters have a vested interest in keeping the polls as close as possible to do more polls and keep the interest of the people going to do more polls.

So, Zogby has been in the Dems pocket for at least the last 2 Presidential elections.

He was the furthest out with the Dems ahead.

Could it be that in order to gain market share against competitors, he will be the first one to predict a McCain victory, that he decides to go with perhaps a more realistic assessment of the empty suit running for president?

This would make him more money next year and in the future.

Its always useful to remember that we have all seen the “Zogby Special Sauce” since about the ‘92 election. This guys polls always seem to mirror what his agenda of the day seems to be. Not exactly sure what he is up to here, but I’m opening a very large can of skepticism.

The only thing we can infer from polls this year is that the polling is nowhere near a science and pollsters are losing hair in prodigious amounts.

These polls seem pretty optimistic, and they all appear to be Zogby online surveys (still scientifically conducted, but viewed with some suspicion).

But if some folks are going to take Marist and some other Obama-friendly polls seriously, then we should include these as well. :-)

I think I do. Florida has been rather consistent ever since Secretary of State Harris removed 40,000 Snowbirds off the voting rolls. It might explain why Alcee Hastings went nutty today making his inflammatory race card statement. They ain't gonna win Florida.

And I’m in Bucks County, PA, the notoriously “purple” Philly suburb. I also see McCain signs at at 10-1 ratio over Obama. Funny thing is, I see Murphy (1-term incumbent Dem from 8th District) signs everywhere, but no Obama signs next to them. I saw the same thing at the McCain rally in Media (about an hour west of here) - Dem congressional race signs everywhere, but no Obama signs. Are the local Dems distancing themselves from Obama?

We just rode up RT 11 on the way to Chambersburg and somebody had painted a huge NO BAMA-NATION on the side of his barn.

All McCain signs clear up til we hit Wilson College territory.

The [R] campaign booth at the Frederick fair in MD was handing out McCain signs like mad and the [D] booth had 3 people just sitting around staring into space.

[as per a forum post in the local paper]

Thats very true. GOP always outperforms the polls in every election. I think it is because the people they are calling in the middle of the day are likely a bunch of slackers sitting around munching cheetos and watching Oprah.
