American Flag
No I missed the event.
There will be pictures of the event.
I didn’t notice and so far, can’t find any pics onlie. Wouldn’t surprise me, the flag was probably made in China.
The whole ceremony was a disgrace to Phelps and all Americans. IMHO
I think the President is having a great time at the olympics, he seems to be everywhere. Maybe he’ll dust off the bike and enter an event.
I didn’t see the flag, but the National Anthem was cut short at the end.
The Secret Service must be having fits.
IMHO, he should have come home immediately upon learning of the murdered American.
Not for an event, but he already rode the Mountain Bike course with a couple of our athletes on the first day.
Na.. he is getting a lot of face time with world leaders in a setting where bureaucrats aren’t interfering.
I see a pattern here. If his name where Clinton, I would worry about our female athletes, but I feel they are completely safe with W.
I was so proud of Michael Phelps, and Ryan Lochte, standing up there with their hands over their hearts during the playing of our National Anthem. Then when it quit playing at the end, Phelps looked a little confused and then just smiled. The cameras cut to President Bush, and he was standing up waving a little American flag all over the place. Made me so proud to be an American...:-)
Well, I do too. I kinda get the feeling that Bush is preparing for a nike ad campaign for when he leaves office with all the face time he’s getting at these games.
If you are discussing the 3 flags for the medalists, then yes, they were shown briefly.
The Chinese should certainly know what our American flag looks like. They make most of the flags we buy over here.
OK....I had it on DVR...it started w/a red stripe...the white that you saw across the top of the flag was the “clamp” to hold it.
Can anyone verify the story of the little boy with Yao Ming for opening ceremonies. I did a search and could not find any articles about this little boy dated prior to last week.
I think its pure propaganda.
I lost it when they showed his mom and sisters in the stands bawling. No one cries alone when I am around. LOL

Doesn’t Phelps have 5 or 6 more gold medals to win? We’ll see what happens if things are still fudged up by the 3rd or 4th gold medal ceremony.
He had a CTJ with Putin during the opening ceremonies before Putin left. I thought the timing of both being there was good.
For anyone who saw the whole thing, do we know if they actually cut off the anthem or if it was just poor editing on the TV studio’s part?

What you are seeing as a "white stripe on the flag" is actually the metal holding clamp that holds the flag in the raising apparatus.
Note the same white holder at the top of the Hungarian flag on the far right. No conspiracy going on...

I was just wondering if it was via the tv editing before we see it. Everything we are watching happened several hours ago, so it may have played correctly there but the broadcast was poorly edited.

I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt until I have reason otherwise.
The actual race was LIVE on nbc at about 10 pm est last night which was great for us who love live events.
I do not know if the medal ceremony was live or not.
A lot of events will be live on NBC at night due to the 12 hour time difference and the fact that many final events are late morning early afternoon in China and will thus air live on NBC nightly coverage.
So they just cut it off, everyone was smiling so I think they all heard the same thing.
Was Phelps expression of the anthem being cut short edited in? Plain and simple someone screwed up. I’m sure they are going to get quite a few more oppurtunities to play it again! Then we’ll know.
No problem...if the US Flag postage stamp could be messed up, it’s not far fetched to think it could happen other places.
The playing of the national anthem was messed up...repeating the opening several times....
and then just at the part “the land of the free, and the home of the brave” -—the song suddenly stopped and that part was not played.
I thought it might be intentional, but maybe not. If they could put on such an opening night spectacle, I wondered why they couldn’t play a simple USA national anthem.
Mistakes do happen, I guess. Hope it doesn’t happen again.
