NEW YORK (Reuters Health)-If the trends of the past three decades continue, it's possible that every American adult could be overweight 40 years from now, a government-funded study projects.
The figure might sound alarming, or impossible, but researchers say that even if the actual rate never reaches the 100-percent mark, any upward movement is worrying; two-thirds of the population is already overweight....

Yeah but, um, we could all be underweight too.
I’d love to get paid to predict all those things that we COULD be...

Does that mean that all U.S. adults could NOT be overweight in 40 Years?

I think it will be 110% of the population. I hate when people project growth, it is just stupid.

Broader social changes are needed as well, she said -- such as making communities more pedestrian-friendly so that people can walk regularly, or getting the food industry to offer healthier, calorie-conscious choices.
Another excuse to advance the socialist cause with more regulation. Note they don't provide their definition of overweight.
Fortunately I'll never become an adult.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2057569/posts I saw the hottest chick in my high school at my last class reunion. She was almost as wide as she was tall.
When she was a teenager, she was absolutely smokin'. Wouldn't give me the time of day; I think she ran with wealthy college-age guys.
Now all her power is gone.

This is sooooo stupid. All you got to do is say that a health weight is 240 pounds. Now most people are UNDERWEIGHT. See how simple that was?

After an exhaustive review of the research literature, here’s the final
word on nutrition and health:
1. Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
2. Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than us.
3. Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks
than us.
4. Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart
attacks than us.
5. Germans drink beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer
heart attacks than us.
CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently
what kills you. But don’t worry, your Government is trying to correct this
problem.

OK, then if we all inflate our tires to the proper pressure and lose weight we won’t need to drill for more oil.

Considering ideal weight is a contrived number, derived partly from averaging, it would be impossible for 100% to be overweight.
Now, if they don't want to be PC and say it like it is, they are saying 100% will be carrying too much fat.

every American adult could be overweight 40 years from now, Completely idiotic statement. People will be overweight only if they eat too much.
I weigh the same as I did when I graduated high school and I'm 50 yrs old.
Some of us just can't over-eat, because we feel bloated and like $**+ when we do.

Women often gain weight like that after being sexually attacked/abused. Yes, but they gain weight for other reasons too. Right?
You're not really saying that the reason behind the emergence of vast numbers of female fatties is because of a huge escalation in sexual attacks and abuse, are you?
Does that explanation cover the male fatties too?

Evolution at work. Maybe there is a climate change to a colder climate coming our way and our bodies are just preparing for it.
To: AmericanInTokyo
Would that be those of us who are adults now?
Or do they mean everybody who will have been alive from 22 years from now?
I would say that a large number of adults today will be dead in 40 years.
But it must take some serious talent to guess the weight of folks who won't be born until 22 years from now.
Of course most if not all of the "studiers" will be retired and/or dead in 40 years, so I suppose they might as well predict just about anything they like...
