Just a few months ago, images of smiling children, police officers and firefighters filled TV screens and mailboxes across the state, urging voters to support major casino expansions for four Southern California tribes.
Gov. Schwarzenegger and other government officials promised that the tribes would help balance the state's troubled budget with an influx of gambling dollars. The casino riches would help protect state funding for schools, police and fire departments, health care and roads, the tribes and their supporters said.

The casinos will blame the GOV, saying “white man speak with forked tongue”.
It appears actually as though they are preparing to tax the “H” out of us.
We are in for some really bad times me thinks.
Yeah right. casinos=gambling=crooks
People do not like to sin in their backyard.
In Connecticut the casinos agreed to pay 25% of their slot revenue to the state, a sum that now amounts to almost $200 million per year as of 2007. Slot revenues are down ... hence monies coming into the state are down.
The casinos in CT are in the middle of nowhere ... and I do mean MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. The lovely little towns and people have suffered with terrible traffic on tiny country roads and the increase of associated crime and drain on town services. Pratt & Whitney used to be the largest employer in the state ... it is now the casinos. Damn shame.

This one works, or at least did for me just a moment ago.
Personally don’t like the legitimazation of gambling for any purpose primarily because it’s a gamble.
Situated mid-way between Boston and New York, I suppose they have brought world class entertainment to CT, something it didn't have before to any degree. So if you like seeing the likes of big-name entertainers, I guess that part is good, without having schlep into the big cities.
But the casinos were brought in under such shady back door dealings ... they'll never be accepted by the locals without leaving a very bitter taste.
Jeff Benedict wrote a great book on how the casinos in CT came to be: Without Reservation: How a Controversial Indian Tribe Rose to Power and Built the World's Largest Casino
"Casinos and prostitutes have the same thing in common; they are both trying to screw you out of your money and send you home with a smile on you face." -VP Pappy

Unfortunately the applicable parts per million content of Leftists, and their “Useful idiot” sycophants in the California Legislature successfully gerrymandered the districts sufficiently to accomplish what would otherwise be DOA with the majority.
Discouraging.
