Two held in attack on kittens

Two men were arrested Wednesday after they allegedly stood by laughing as their pit bull ate a live kitten.

Jeremy Johnson, 17, and Travis Johnson, 23, were arrested in a vacant lot in the 4900 block of Bradley Street after 911 dispatchers received an anonymous tip about the pair, a Baton Rouge police arrest affidavit says.

When police and animal control officers arrived at 11:20 a.m., they saw Jeremy Johnson holding his pet pit bull’s leash while the dog consumed a kitten, according to police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely and the affidavit.

Leavey cautioned people against giving away these animals for free, suggesting instead that they adopt them out for a fee.

“When people advertise free kittens, it’s free dogfighting bait,” she said.

Leavey added that it should be a red flag when someone tries to take more than one animal at a time.

Rachel Walz, of French Settlement, said that someone responded to her advertisement about free kittens last month claiming to work for a cat rescue organization.

Walz said her mother gave three of their kittens to the woman, as well as six kittens belonging to their neighbor.

Alarmed by the number of kittens the woman wanted, Walz called two local animal welfare organizations, both of which said that the kittens were probably used to train pit bulls.

“I never could have imagined that stuff like that goes on,” Walz said. “I was disgusted.”

It's one thing if you've got a "pet" which requires live food. I've had friends with piranahs and oscars which ate live, smaller fish, as well as reptiles that ate live food: Snakes eating mice, etc... Although I often wonder why we don't make the distinction of lizards or turtles that eat live crickets... Still, I've never understood the fascination of owning a predator that needs to kill its own food before eating. To each his own, I guess. And I chose not to participate in those feedings, including watching.

Anyway, when it comes to dogs, there's NO reason to feed them live animals. NONE. Unless it's to train the dog to kill, and for the sick gratification of the one feeding the kitten.

This is a sick person.

I’ll start the bidding:

1) Mauling kittens — should be a hefty fine and a couple years in gaol. I don’t like cats at all, but feeding them to dogs is just wrong. If for no other reason than they are likely to cause the dog indigestion.

2) Training a dog for fighting — should be a heftier fine and even more time in gaol, preferably with a lonely, sexually-frustrated psychopath for a cellmate.

3) Owning a pit-bull — another big fine, even more gaol time, plus euthanasia for the dog: preferably with a humane flame thrower or a humane machine gun. Pit bulls are a menace not to be tolerated by any civilized society, and too dangerous for Animal Control Officers to approach with a needle.

(ducks for cover...!)

'why mah pit bull is so gentle it crawls into mah baby's crib and sleeps wid a pacifier in it's mouth' and 'why mah pit bull is so friendly and easy to get along with that I have Christmas dinner with him, instead of mah mother-in-law', and then of course 'pit pulls ain't dangerous, it's the people who don't understand 'em that's dangerous! we oughta euthanize THEM, not the dawgs!'

Yep, they'll be arriving here shortly. :)

At least the police there responded. I was leaving New York's Central Park a couple of weeks ago just as it was beginning to get dark, and I saw ahead of me, two guys, probably in their early twenties walking a large Rottweiler type dog. Although there wasn't much light I could see the dog had something in its mouth. So as I got to within about 25-30 feet of them I asked "what's that in your dog's mouth"?. One answered, "a rat". But as I got a little closer I saw that it was actually a raccoon. And not just any raccoon, but a tiny one, probably no more than a month or two old. When I realized this, I asked how could they let their dog do such a thing? The kid, in true smart-ass/punk fashion, responded, "it was self defense", that the raccoon (a baby, less than a foot long) had attacked the dog.

Anyway, I spotted some Parks dept workers and told them about it. They called the police, who actually have a large precinct inside the park, and not that far away from where we were. But after about an hour or so waiting and 2 or 3 followup calls, the police told the workers that there wasn't anything they could do about it because the baby raccoon is/was a wild animal. That of course is total BS. It is entirely against the law to intentionally kill animals, wild or otherwise, in a city park. So, unless that tiny raccoon was on crack or something, they were BS-ing their butts off. They quickly split, btw, when they saw me notifying the park workers.

Each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. - and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. Put another way, for every person that is born, 15 dogs and 45 cats are also born. You do the math, there is no way we can find homes for them all. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all the animals from here to eternity. As a result, every year 4 to 6 million animals are euthanized because there are no homes for them.

I hate Pit Bulls. They are not Dogs, they are not even a proper breed. They are a Criminal Nuisance and a menace to the law-abiding public, as often-as-not unregistered and un-desexed, great hulking slavering mungrel muts owned by crims and gangsta wannabes.

The Gummint should declare them a dangerous, unwanted, contraband bio-organism, and then deploy the army to round up every one of them, dig a big hole, throw the lot in and humane napalm them into oblivion, and then fill in the hole with cement. Then make it a Capital Offense to import or possess the breed.

They are a dangerous dam’ned Biological Hazard full-stop.

That’s easy-peasy-japanesey! It’s just like that famous Jurist whatsisname once said of Pornography: “I may not be able to define it, but I know it when I see it.”

Ergo, it is a duty that I’d be glad to arrogate to myself, as Chief Mungrel Mutt Exterminator: “if it looks like a Pit Bull, and Barks like a Pit Bull, and Bites like a Bit Bull, then a Pit Bull it is, no further evidence required. Hell, it sure ain’t no poodle! Hand me the flame thrower and write ‘em out a ticket for Noncompliance.”

Just like that. Simple as!

I like pit bulls. They can be very good dogs. As far as people wanting to round up and kill them, it sounds sort of like gun control talk to me.

I own Akitas myself, and I can tell you they can be tougher and more vicious than pits. If you get rid of the pits, there are plenty of more dog breeds out there to be abused and destroyed. The creeps will just find another breed, perhaps Rotties. And try this one out:

http://www.canadasguidetodogs.com/caucasian.htm

They fight these dogs in Europe and Asia all the time.

It’s the people that breed these dogs for fighting that need to be castrated.

Pits are small, shorthaired, friendly and frankly, I love to pet their big flat heads. A good breed such as a AmStaff is bred for the family. Perhaps breeders should be licensed, and all such dogs bought from breeders committed to breeding for family companionship.

Flame away.

Mungrel Mutts are not covered by the Bill of Rights. And there is no habeas corpus requirements for Mungrel Mutts. They do not get a day in court.

All that is required by law is that they be treated lawfully and in a humane manner.

No, People are covered under the fourth amendment, and People’s property (eg dogs) cannot be unreasonably seized.

The remedy to that is simple: what is needed is “reasonable” seizure. Declaring Pit Bulls as unwanted dangerous bio-organisms would do the trick nicely. They could thus be treated as any hazardous or nuisance pest would be, under the relevant biosecurity laws.

Just like marijuana plants, for example.

Or merely declare them contraband and have Customs and Excise seize ‘em.

Either way the Fourth Amendment needn’t pose too much of a barrier if your Nation was determined to rid itself of dangerous Pit Bull Mungrel Mutts.
