Vote Independent (vanity)
Free_life

Posted on 07/08/2008 11:02:59 AM PDT by free_life

Was just reading that congress has only a 9% approval rating. While it is true the Dems are bad, the Republicans are very close to being as useless as the Dems.

Maybe we should all start voting for Independent candidates (conservatives hopefully) and get these hacks both Dems and Repubs out. A congress with a high number of conservatives would be fine by me and might put an end to these two corrupt and useless parties.

What do you all think?

“what do you all think?”

o.k. i’ll bite.

i think it’s a ruse to water down republican party influence and potency. (even more than it is now.)

IMHO

There just are not many independents running and in states like California where I live, the independents usually aren’t conservative. I wonder if we had more parties like in England where you have Labour, Liberal Democrats, and Conservatives you’d have more of a choice. For it to work though the parties would have to state what they stand for and how they are different from the other parties running. President Washington originally intended that there should be no political parties.

The libs love their lib candidates.

They will vote lib no matter what.

If the conservatives all vote independant, we run the risk of an all lib congress....not like it is not close with all the RINOS, but it could happen.

The numbers that would vote independant are just not enough....sadly.

I will be voting candidate by candidate. And if there is no pro-Constitution small government candidate running, I will write in.

I would only do it if there was a promise, that was upheld, that they would caucus with the GOP and have at least one or two budgetary leadership spots. Otherwise, nada, as much as the Repugs suck they at least hold back the hounds of communism for now.

Of course, let's consider the last real independent candidate for president. H. Ross Perot gained tremendous attention as he was bringing up topics that most real people could understand. Sure, loads of props, but for a lot of people, when he brought up the topic of deficit spending, people could understand it. If you ain't got the money, you can't spend it.

I'm sure there are thousands of folks on this, one of the more conservative forums, who voted for him. I did. And what did I get? Slick Willy. Oh, sure, I probably should have known better, and it was pretty grudgingly that I voted for Dole 4 years later.

You would think, after getting hammered by Perot, that the Republican party would realize how folks didn't want the government to constantly spend money. For a moment, it was like the dawn occurred, and suddenly Arnold Schwarzenegger picked up the torch, telling us how we're taxed when we get up in the morning, when we go to the bath room, when we turn on a light, tax, tax, tax. And indeed, over sixty percent of California cast a vote for a Republican governor.

So, let's look at this year's national campaign. Wait? We still don't have one? We still don't have senators and congressmen from across the nation saying what they'll be doing in the next four years?

I don't know if anyone can still be sucked into a fiscal conservative campaign anymore, but it'd sure be nice if someone out there realized that the 'most liberal' state voted for one.

Was wondering if this took off that maybe more liberty minded conservatives might run as Independents. Sort of a grassroots groundswell movement (is that a known term ?? :-).

Point being I cannot think of anything else that can turn the tide of liberalism in congress and that includes the Republicans. They both make me sick. They are both useless and their greed, corruption and hold on power makes me want revolution of some form to see principled representation in Washington as it should be.

Cant really argue with this except the GOP can be rebuilt. It will take time but if the base is serious they will start tossing out the spineless ones.

Nope.

Stupid idea.

Vote Republican and put CONSERVATIVES in offices (Senate House etc)

Don’t vote third parties. Change the PARTY to the way it SHOULD be.

Vote dilution will kill us all.

I think this is one sure way to ruin.

It would be different if we were not a country with an entrenched two-party system.

It would be different if we did not have a representative democracy, including an Electoral College.

It would be different if our system were not, essentially, winner-take-all and, instead, we had coalition governments.

It would be different if the conduct of the voting public in the primaries, this year and in year’s past, provided even a shred of evidence that a sufficient number of voters want to risk the present system in an attempt to create a *viable* third party.

I could go on.

As Garth said to Wayne (or maybe it was the other way around): “Live in the now, man.”

Bad idea. No way to organize conservatives into a solid voting block. Lots of rats call themselves “independents” because they are ashamed of being called liberals.

There needs to be a consensus on the definition of the word conservative. McCain thinks he’s a conservative. I don’t. The definition seems to be changing, just like the definition of the word liberal.

If McCain doesn’t win, we’ll get Obama. That’s a fact. Personally, I’m not one to cut off my nose to spite my face.

You can’t support McCain’s candidacy, so you will vote in a way that helps Obama’s candidacy? Lord, help us.

I’m not voting for Obama by not voting for McCain and I’m not helping Obama by not supporting McCain, I’m just not supporting McCain. I would be helping Obama by voting for him. I don’t have battered wife syndrome and I don’t plan on giving my vote away to any man who doesn’t deserve it simply because he’s “less evil”.

"Read My Lips" GHW Bush.

"Brady Bill" Bob Dole.

Now "Juan" McCain.

No thanks...

Considering the situation this year, I think I'll go back to the way I was before 9-11-2001.

In the *Not giving a shit* mode.

Other might think I'm being selfish, stupid, uncaring, etc but, MAN did I sleep better!!

I still give a "sh*t", I'm just done putting up with the GOP cheerleaders sh*t.

If they can't field a decent candidate, then they don't get my vote.

I don't want a "perfect" candidate either. Just one that aligns with at least 60% of the Constitution. Neither McCain nor Obama fit that minimal qualification.

I think Congress could care less what the American people think (unless its time to get reelected...then they say what they think we want to hear).
