This Weeks Sci-Fi Thread (07/06/08)

Fri:
9/8 - Dr Who - SciFi
10/9 - Stargate Alantis - SciFi

TOPICS: Miscellaneous; TV/Movies
KEYWORDS: atlantis; drwho; scifi
Finally Stargate is back... I did like last season, but to be honest I was also disappointed... The reason, in how they used Sam... To me her character was is mostly used for solving problems, blowing up solar systems, and so on.. Not as head of an expedition in galaxy far far away. Plus there was no confritation between her and Rodney.... They seem way to buddy buddy unlike the past.

Speaking of sci-fi, the trailer of the new The Day The Earth Stood Still is out.

Here's our new Klaatu. Yes, seriously.

One of my favorite movies, and a super classic film.

Seems in this one the alien carries a warning message about the destruction of this planets environment as opposed to the warning in the classic movie about nuclear weapons proliferation into space.

I was a little disappointed when I heard this, but I will watch it and hope the PC is not carried to far.

I was fortunate to meet Billy Gray...He played the kid, Bobby Benson in the classic. Actually met him at the flat track races in Orange County, California a few years back, as he was one of those racing in the event and I had access to the pits.

He also played Bud Anderson in "Father Knows Best". Meeting him was a big kick for me.

I just watched the finale of Dr. Who on youtube. Wow...what a ride, well worth the time! Not to give any spoilers but everybody who was anybody in the present Dr. Who series, and even going back and pulling some characters from the Tom Baker days, was on this season’s finale.

This is Russel T Davies’s last season as Producer of Doctor Who. Thank goodness. The Season 4 finale was typical of him. Lots of emotional drama and plot holes. I look forward to Steve Moffat taking over as the new Doctor Who producer in 2010. Moffat is the man. His masterpiece episode of “Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead” reveals what a gifted writer he is.

I was very impressed with Catherine Tate’s performance in Forest of the Dead. She is by far the superior companion. I’m glad that RTD is leaving. I hope this will lead to a mass exodus of the shippers who in my opinion ruin these types of shows. Why ..why ..why must complex relationships be reduced to falling madly in luv(kissy face). ARGH!!! A few scenes of the finale were visually stunning but some things really irked me. I won’t get into it because I don’t want t spoil it. I’ll keep my mouth shut and my finger clenched until it airs on Sci Fi.

I can believe that he’s an alien. Or a CGI creation.

Yay, I’m excited for Stargate too! But, to me it made sense that Sam wound up leading the Atlantis expedtion, since she was by far the most experienced military person in the entire Stargate program. And I think she decided she didn’t hate Rodney sometime in season 7 or 8 of SG-1... I haven’t watched it in a while so I don’t remember specifically.

And, I’m STILL trying to find time to watch the finale of Doctor Who on veoh or somewhere...

Steroids = Science

Wrestling = Fiction

It makes perfect sense! ;-)

Big Dr. Who fan here, the 2 part library episode rocked, and this Dr. Who leading man is the best I think. My kids love it too by the way, our whole family watches it together. The Agatha Christie (sp?) giant wasp episode was good too, and funny.

“This is Russel T Davies’s last season as Producer of Doctor Who.”

Given how little the show has kept my attention, this is a good thing. Frankly the new series is not nearly as good as I hoped it would be when it came out. The special effects are better, and I’ve liked the companions, but the stories are not compelling nad have not held my interest. I’ve stopped Tivoing them for now...

Been away for a couple of weeks. So what was the reaction to the finale of the first half of this season's Battlestar Galactica? I was not pleased!

BG is on hiatus until after the Presidential Inauguration, at which point the last 11 episodes will be shown.
