Mitsubishi has revealed that its Laser LCD HDTVs will come in 65-inch and 73-inch sized models later this year.
The company, which is now billing the sets as 'LaserVue,' said they will revolutionize the high-def industry by offering crisper pictures, more vivid colors and 3-D viewing capability.
The 65-inch set will ship in the third quarter of this year with the 73-inch model to soon follow. Mitsubishi has not revealed pricing on either set, but considering the screen size, they could run into the thousands of dollars.

The new Mitsubishi Laser HDTV.
The sets were first unveiled at last January's Consumer Electronics Show. Mitsubishi also showcased the sets to reporters during a spring exhibit and many came away impressed.
The New York Times, which attended the Mitsubishi exhibit, wrote that "if production models are like what was on display today, consumers should react strongly to the new technology."
"One immediate impact: with a laser light engine, colors dont look so much as if theyre painted on the screen as if theyre shooting out from it. Colors are alive and vibrant in a way that mimics the brightness of neon light, or a large advertising transparency being illuminated from behind in a light box," the Times stated.
Mitsubishi also says the sets, which are 10 inches deep, operate at under 200 watts, consuming less energy than other LCD models now on the market.

A Sony Bravia LCD TV is still a very nice set. No need to throw it out yet.

Geez, if you have a small house, where the heck would a 65-inch screen not be overwhelming? Outside, maybe.

I waited 50 years for HD only to end up seeing phosphor-dot feces taking up so much of the screen real estate on almost every channel. Ads, “you’re now watching”, logos, etc.
Big whoop.

You’re right - it is pretty bad, as bad as the tabloid channels (Fox, CNN, etc).
Oh, I forgot to praise the incessant crawls.
Funny how all that video poop disappears during commercial breaks. Advertisers won’t tolerate the nonsense the stereotypical masses will.

Drooling!!!!!! I paid $3999 + 7.75% tax on the 55" widescreen that I bought in 2000. I bought the Diamond model. I have a feeling I can pick this new one up for less than that. The only problem is that I don't want to replace it until it breaks down. Then again, if my 36" Toshiba goes out I can replace that one. The little 13" Samsung in my bedroom is close to if not over 30 years old and still works great.
Of course all bets are off if I go out to a store and look at the picture. Then it could be a case of absence makes the heart grow fonder.
To: r_barton
When I purchased my 55” widescreen back on 2000, the 73” model was selling for around $7000. That tv originally retailed for $9999. At the time, Mitsubishi had a fancy version of their tv that went for $25,000. A few years later they came out with an 82” rear projection model that was available on the web between $11,000 - $14,000.

Ok..... I give you permission ( as long as the funds allow it, and your not using your fuel fund ) to go out and buy one now.... Just make sure you don't dip to deep just in case gas prices go higher.
BTW ? has anyone used a Hydrogen Generator on their car ? does it really work ?

" Geez, if you have a small house, where the heck would a 65-inch screen not be overwhelming? Outside, maybe. "
Not overwhelming as long as you have a dedicated " Theater Room " in your house.
As long as you have a extra room in your house ( maybe basement ? attic ? ) a room that is ... 10 x 12 ... then, it's no problem.

I bought a Toshiba 57” DLP R/P last year, it was the last of the model line and it was a floor model plus on top of that Sears had a fathers day sale, in the end I paid like $1200 for it, it was a hidden gem, while The overpriced Mits and Sony’s kept cropping up with problems like premature lamp failures mine has been totally trouble free, however I have learned a valuable lesson similar to buying the most up to date computer, if you want the best, newest and latest thing on the market you pay through the nose, if you can afford it then its obsolete.
Technically DLP is obsolete but still its such a stunning vivid display with extreme minor screen door effects and frankly I can hardly ever see it unless it a fast moving object.
I would suggest checking out close out deals on LED Tvs before jumping the gun on a laser unless which I seriously doubt Mits does what Toshiba did and lowers the unit price way down, thats why Sears dropped carrying them, they were so far below compared to others and had better picture quality that they had no profit margin, that I was told by a Sears employee.
From what I hear the best image quality screen coming around in the near future is an organic phosphor, there is a puter screen available now, its like a million to one contrast ratio.

When I first bought my 55" wide tv, I wanted to get the 65" tv, but didn't think my room was big enough. That tv is only 1080i or 480P. I could put a 73" 1080P tv in the room due to the higher clarity. I sit about 8 feet away from the tv.
When the tv was delievered and we watched it for the first time it did appear to be HUGE, but after a while you get used to it.

Just like when Forest Gump's mom told Forest that there were some people who stopped by and they want you Forest to use ( THEIR ) ping pong paddle and they will give you $ 25,000 for using it.... and Forest took the paddle and thought about it,, ... it kind of grew on him.... so as .. that TV kinda grows on you.

I still prefer DLP over LCD ... LCD has more of a problem with screen door effects.
It also depends on the DLP/DMD chip's native resolution ( NOT the resolution that the i.e. TV . projector can display.
You can have a TV. Projector that can do 1080 x 800 or higher, but, the chip itself is only 480i....
They do have native DLP DMD chips now that are native 1080 x 800.
The screen door effect all depends on what resolution your DLP chip is..... if the DLP/DMD chip is only 480i native, then you will get the screen door effect.

Got a 37” SDTV sitting in the main living room. MY personal entertainment electronics have been stuck on 1996 for about the last 10 years (No HDMI, DVD only, still using VCR). I’m thinking that perhaps shelling out a couple of grand this time might be worth the upgrade of two generations of TV.

Sonofabitch! I couldn't wait any longer, Dave - the old RCA went Lime-Green, lost its' sound (I was pickin' the sound off satellite), so I ordered-up a Samsung DLP unit!
Now you tell me Laser's the word!

Of course he wants to throw out his old Sony Bravia. It’s old technology that isn’t worth much any more. For the record, let me know where the set is being disposed of, so I can pick it up and make sure it is being properly recycled. I have a recycling station with a recliner and beer fridge that needs a big screen TV for proper environmental effect.

Sounds tempting, but I have had so many issues with my Mitsubishi 1080i DLP, which I have had for 3 years. I go through a lamp a year, and two DOA models were delivered before I got one that worked. I'd be more sold if this new technology was introduced by somebody else.
I'm going to hang onto my current set until it needs a repair that runs as much as a new set.

There has been considerable problems with HD porn movies. Apparently the gist is that HD is
too sharp and results in every skin blemish, hair, scar and wart showing up in crystalline clarity and putting off the viewer. See
