Good morning everybody. Condolensces regarding your uncle, lysie.

I’ve been getting ready for dinner guests tonight. Picked over two pints of blueberries that Wally World had on sale for $1.25 each to make (for the first time) a blueberry upside -down cake. We’ll see how it turns out.

Then made some rather sad looking deviled eggs as they were too fresh when I boiled them and they didn’t peel easily. Hopefully they won’t fall apart in somebody’s hand at the table.

Also made cole slaw and will have corn on the cob and barbequed chicken. Aged Swiss cheese on crackers for appetizer.

It sure does seem like Sunday today..

Oh, and I forgot campfire potatoes on the grill. Small potatoes wrapped in foil with olive oil, garlic, rosemary and salt and grilled in the packet.

Did McCain recently replace his campaign director? I’m behind on news, but this doesn’t bode well IMO. I don’t know the circumstances though..

Good morning, Toby and Everyone!

Rain last night and more showers on the way...a very good thing.

If you run out of WW2 books to read, Toby, one that is absolutely fascinating is IN HARM'S WAY: The Sinking Of The USS INDIANAPOLIS And The Extraordinary Story Of Its Survivors, by Doug Stanton.

I bought it on the internet from the grandson of one of the survivors of this tragic sinking.

But there is much more story to that sinking....a court martial of the innocent Captain and his suicide years later for not ever being pardoned. The details of the survivors' ordeal was so vivid and gripping that I could only read a little bit at one time.

Good afternoon.

Big half page article on the back of the Sports Section in our daily rag with a great picture of Gen. Petraeus and some of the 1215 service members that re’d up at al-Faw palace at Camp Victory, Baghdad, yesterday.

Article went on to discuss that the military doesn’t cease operations to enjoy holiday (AP, of course) with some interviews. I couldn’t believe the very last interview. How the AP let it be printed I’ll never know. But when I read it, I said to myself, this guy really gets it.

Here’s the quote, “Back at Warhorse, Sgt. Jacob Fultz, 22, of Gardner, Kan., was focused on the day’s meaning. ‘It’s kind of like the flight’s never over. It started on July 4, 1776 and now it’s 2008.’”

This kid really gets it - eternal vigilance is the price of liberty. He sees that we can never let up on that vigilance so that anyone, foreign or domestic, can take away our Country, culture, or freedom.

Just my 2 cents.

instead it opens a window so I can reply to jtill. I thought I’d lost my mind. Clicked on your link 3 times. Each time it opened a ‘comment’ window. I thought I’d mashed the wrong button.

Life become more difficult as we age. Perhaps it’s true that we’re older but wiser. But we’re easily confused, as well.

But I will be gone after September.

I'm too old for this, but I'm going to do it anyway.

I gotta tell you, this ‘Dumbo’ really bothers me, he is not right at all and so many misplaced folks are going along with him, what they are going along with I surely don’t know but know it is dangerous, surely mind of right and wrong will see thru him, just not a good thing at all, it will be the ruin of this country, wanted by so many, in at hand. Hate it when I wake on the gloom and doom side in the morning.

I got to get ready for church so I can go over and sit with the kids while D and SIL gets ready and will work hard at getting my path on the positive side going, right now it is walking down the wrong path and it does not do me any good at all.

My Mom always baked it in the oven with either an apple or an onion and baking grease to take away the "grab the back of your throat" effect it can have on you.

The apple in the pan almost makes it sweet. BTW, it has been my experience that homemade kraut is wonderful!

I’ve had saurkraut “mellowed” like that with an apple, even some brown sugar and onion in it and it’s delicious.

I can only have a bit of it though as it doesn’t always agree with me.

I'm sorry. I don't have any pictures at all. I was too busy with other things.

The wedding was very nice. Josh and Carlie made a lovely couple. It was great fun. They were so sweet together.

The RD was great. All the decorations looked lovely. My friends from Papua, as well as my sister and her husband, were major helps. The video made of Josh and Carly growing up and up until now was a big hit. Both the bride and her mother cried!

The reception was the most fun ever! Josh and Carlie had such a wonderful first dance. We all were clapping and laughing and hooting and hollering. It was great!

Then, they left their luggage unguarded. I got to thinking of some of the stunts that JT had done growing up.

I wonder if they'll ever get all the bird seed out of their clothes?

This morning we had a family brunch at a Cracker Barrel. We then packed up and went back home.

As Johnny says, “Life is good.”

PS The newlyweds are in Jamaica.

What can we expect from a bunch of courageless individuals who do not “report” the news. They talk and write about only that which they are told to print or say. I’ll bet not one in 50 have ever had the courage to put on the uniform of the United States Military. Bunch of spineless weenies.

Dog, I have a terrific recipe for saurkraut. Rinse the kraut, well. Fry up some bacon, crumble it and set it aside. Add just about 1 tbsp of flour to the grease, add the kraut, salt and pepper to taste, mix the kraut into the flour mixture. Thinly slice a sweet onion and add to the kraut. Add a pinch of salt to the onions. Add a bit of water, about 1/2 cup. Put the lid on the pot. Cook until steaming, add 2 Tbsp paprika mix into the kraut, mix well..careful, turn down the heat, as you don’t want to scorch the paprika, I use Hungarian Hot paprika, you can use sweet. Add your sausage or hot dogs. Wonderful. I serve mashed potatoes or butter/parslyed potatoes with this.
