Just for purposes of curiosity:
Do you plan to travel for the July 4th weekend? and why or wny not?
Pesonally, i wasn't planning on it, but that's par for the course. It's been years and years since i sought to go anywhere but to the local fireworks celebration, and I think this has saved me much grief. But, if I were one to go to big amusement parks, or going to visit relatives, I still would likely not go this year, not because of panic, or being so short of funds that I could not literally buy the gas to go...but because my worries about gas prices and their ripple effect, have pushed me past panic, into disgust, and even further into low level fury, and into wanting to do my own little part towards keeping my money in my pocket, and dishing as little of it as I can, into the hands of the oil companies. I am not afraid. I am angry. Not just at the oil companies. I am mostly angry at the retarded DemoGenerate ass kissers of every lunatic fringe group of the last forty years, that got us into this mess, by doing everything they could to strangle our economy, and our energetic entrepenurial way of life.
I plan to spend my 4th, in town, grilling beef from local farms, locally grown corn, and splurging on a bag of cocktail shrimp and sauce in the back yard during the fireworks. And when the fireworks are over, it's a few steps in the house, to the flat screen TV and the PC, for movies or streaming TV or surfin FR. >8o)
What about you?
Nowhere to go, so, not.
San Antonio, Texas to Gunnison, Colorado for a week. Gonna use about 60 gallons of gas round-trip and put a fire in the fireplace when I get there.
"Look at the size of MY carbon footprint!"
I’ll be trying to catch up on all the lawn mowing. This damn mild and wet weather has it out of control! I could really use some warm dry weather... but the forecast is not looking that promising. I may just have to hay my yard!
The good news is that our vegetable garden is doing wonderful.
Not going out of town....Just a Pork rib barby to offend Muslims and a short ride to a fireworks show......(Plenty of cold beer also).
Four-day trip by plane
Travelling by car? No. Been out of work since November (union member took my job, thank you very much), so gasoline is an expensive luxury now....
Nope. Staying home. I flew to sister’s in Penn on Memorial Day. My friends are stopping by my place enroute to SC tomorrow, starting outside Boston.
Just took two long trips back to back. The road-side gas stations and truck stops were full all the way, even in the wee hours of the morning.
People are traveling, obviously.
I was ribs = I want ribs
I’ve been seriously considering a victory garden myself.
They’ve got these packs that you can grow tomatoes indors in a sunny room...other stuff too. So another option is turning an empty southern exposure room into a makeshift hothouse, for tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, cooking herbs, some kind of beans..maybe snow peas...It just depends on inertia..when my disgust at prices, exeedes my lethargy...and produces the impetus to actually put it all together...not sure how much of it is feasable, as i don’t want to have to pay for the electricity to run grow lamps, as it sorta defeats the purpose.
Been a long time since I’ve been to a real fireworks show. Trying to deal with the trafic jams afterward cured me of the desire to go. Now, I’ll cook a nice steak on the grill while having a cold beer or two. Then turn on the TV and watch the 4th of July celebration from the Washington Mall. Then there is usually still enough time to watch the celebration from the Boston water front. Total cost for the day is about $10.00.
Yep, only 93 miles away but pulling two horses in an RV/horse trailer at 10mpg. Even so at $15 for electric and water hook up a lot cheaper than a hotel.
Our cul de sac has a HUGE blow out every 4th. We go to W.Va for about $500 worth of illegal fireworks, be sure to invite the Sergeant Detective of the police force from down the street, start up 6-7 grills, ice down 10+/- cases of beer, supply dozens of July 4th recipes and wait for 9pm. Then it’s...BOOM, BAM, BLAM!! Very conservative cul de sac except for 1 dips$$t. She’s told to shut her pie hole when she talks “going green” etc. A lot of fun!
In town all weekend.
Our 4th of July celebration is at Devir Park in Malden MA’s Ward 2 as it has been since I can remember. Pony Rides, Sack Races, the traditional Italian American vs Irish American Clubs softball game, free Sausages, Hot Dogs and Slush, toys for the kids. The Road Race, talent contest, Bicycle and Doll Cariage contest are tonight. Doesn’t that sound SQUARE? And we like it that way.
Three days off work for me and the wife. We’re spending the Fourth at my son’s place, with several folks who just returned from both Iraq and Afghanistan - and several who are about to head over. I think I’m getting tapped to bring the keg :)
Either way, I don’t have to cook, or drive so I’m happy.
The rest of the time I am writing a book or spending time with my wife.
Probably go watch the parade 1 1/2 miles from home, have a few beers and watch the fireworks later.
I work every weekend and this one is no different. Trying to sell new homes in Houston...actually not doing near as bad as the media would have you believe. But, we do get off at 4 tomorrow so at least I won’t have to wait until 9 p.m. to eat my burger!
I expect to travel 120 miles this weekend.
It sounds kinda wonderful. Downright American. :)
I’m staying home this weekend but I went to Toronto last weekend, to see my grandbabies.
Yes, we are traveling, to El Paso to celebrate the Fourth with some family and a few fine soldiers from Ft Bliss.
I wish my street was as conservative as your cul-de-sac! I’m one of about three right of center voters in the whole area here in the SE “Valley.” (San Fernando Valley area of L.A.)
Just going to in-laws house for 4th, taking the dog and fixins’ for the BBQ over there. Later we can view some of the fireworks from Universal or CBS Studio Center events as the house is in foothills.
Only 12 miles roundtrip and practically no cost once there — very small-town Americana area of Burbank with flags on many homes. Not bad. I like it.
We never travel on the 4th, and this year is no exception.
We have a picnic with the extended family, then let off firecrackers for the kids to watch.
Could be profitable.
Staying home and visiting sister in the hospital.
Guess we don’t read the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Having hamburgers and fireworks at the home of one daughter on the Fourth. Going to the range with the other daughter on the Fifth. What could be better than that?
Not for the 4th no, but did just get back from a 8 day trip. Doom and gloom of the MSM reporting aside, pleanty of folks will be enjoying their summer.
Yea, $4 gas stinks, but its still cheaper than $360 per person plane fair.
~1000 miles round trip for 4:
Plane Fair :1590 with taxes etc
Minivan that gets ~22 MPG 1000/22=45.45 gallons
45.45 * 4 = $181.80 for Fuel
Figure ~25 per meal with 2 meals per day, 2 days total travel = $100
add another ~$13 in tolls
So, $294.80 total travel cost vs $1590
Its very easy to make up any added fuel cost, by just downgrading the number of stars at your hotel, and not spend any more total than you would have if gas was $1 a gallon.
Staying put.
Is she a well practiced shot, or a “Sunday” shooter? >;0)
My favorite nephew is back from Iraq on leave to get Married on July 5th. You can bet I’m sticking around for that.
Tomorrow and Saturday morning are going to be my travel day. Traveling from NW Indiana to Central Oklahoma...750 miles one way. I’ll be driving a 45’ Prevost Motor Coach. At 5 mpg of diesel I’m planning on leaving a big footprint. I figure about 400 gallons for the round trip and casual driving.
Nope, staying home. Huge outdoor barbie for about 25 people and an outdoor movie afterwards on the 12 ft screen.
LOL. Let’s just say I wouldn’t mess with her. Between the black belt and the marksmanship, she’s pretty deadly. When she was in high school we took up martial arts as a mother/daughter activity. After she graduated from college, I got her interested in guns. So, now we go to the range as our mother/daughter activity.
Just to work.
And to the local lake.
Tomorow a small family BBQ.
Lots of cheaper forms of suicide...
Nope not traveling. I’m on vacation this week and had a day trip planned (round trip of about 200 miles) but decided to stay home and treat myself to lunch out every day instead.
