Forty-two-year-old Janelle Batkins of Harrison Township pleaded Thursday to two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in Macomb County Circuit Court. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing.

Obviously she and her lawyer thought she’d be found guilty. Oh, well. Maybe they’ll put her in jail the next time.
She ain’t bad, but a make over would help.
So she had sexual relations with a 17 year old and got probation, the kids parents were apparently “angry” over the verdict.
Hardly seems the type of offense that would require jail time.

The boy's father made a interesting comment in the video. If it had been a male teacher and a female student, the sentence would have been different. Pops is correct. Junior knocked boots 10 x. He was so traumatized he went back for more?
The worst part is she was married.
The teacher cheated on her husband.
The video shows the kid. He was no victim. If you want to go on looks, he was more guilty than the teacher. I won’t comment on his Momma.
As far as I am concerned, a 17 year old male is old enough to know what he is doing, even with a teacher. They both misbehaved.

I think the term you really mean is that is she raped him. perhaps he was willing but current law says it was not legal due to their age differences.
No I do not mean that she raped him. The law may say so but the law is full of crap on that. There IS a difference between males and females. He is plenty old enough to know what he was doing.

All the “i’d hit it comments” are humorous but promiscuity is not a good thing. It spreads disease, unwanted pregnancies leading to abortions, and destroys families. Kinda like in this case.
I always thought liberals believed in sex without consequences. From many of these threads there are apparently a lot of conservatives who feel the same way.

Age of consent is 16 in MI. She was a teacher ‘a person of authority’ - thats why she got busted.
Interesting, many states also have a law that until the child is 18 they age difference can not be more than 4 years. Or similar.
I find it interesting and shameful that so many people think its appropriate for teachers to be preying on their students.

I couldn’t tell you why, but when I glanced at the headline, I though at first it said “to” rather than “for.”
...but not her husband. Even though she slept with this kid more than 10 times, he stood up and said how he continues to stand by her.

Janelle Batkins, 42 years old mother of two, pleaded no contest to two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct on 05/30/08. She was originally charged with nine counts of criminal sexual conduct involving the male student. Authorities say the two had a six-month relationship that began with friendship and escalated to include phone calls, text messages and e-mails. However as the trial date approached it is reported that the boy’s family did not want him to have to go through a trial, therefore prosecutors dropped all but two counts as part of the plea deal.
Batkins could face up to 15 years in prison when she is sentenced July 2 by Judge Mark Switalski. She will have to register as a sex offender.
The teen testified during a preliminary exam in Clinton Township District Court that the relationship began to heat up after he turned 17 in October 2006. The pair was caught when one of Batkins' sons came home unexpectedly, the teen testified.
The relationship was brought to authorities' attention after the boy's mother noticed instant messages he and the teacher had been exchanging via computer. Posted by B2R at 12:24 AM
