Don’t expect Eddie Murphy to give you fulfilling multi-characters-by-the-same-actor movie experiences much longer. The actor has recently gone on record as saying that he won’t be making movies much longer. But we’ve all been anxiously awaiting a “Nutty Professor” comeback!

Eddie Murphy recently spoke to Extra, and on the program he announced that his upcoming film “Meet Dave” will be one of his last. Said Murphy, "Fifty years (old) I'll have been making movies thirty years and I have close to fifty movies and it is like why am I in the movies…I've done that part now. Eddie Murphy must be very, very rich - probably one of the richest Hollywood actors. Most of his movies exist in a place beyond goodness or badness. He is talented though, as he was a great comedian doing SNL and stand up before he became a huge star.

He made a few good movies (Coming to America and Trading Places may even qualify as great, regardless of where the story idea for Coming to America came from) but short of his voice acting as the Donkey in the first two Shrek movies, his recent stuff has been forgettable at best.

Seems a bit of a stretch, given he is simply going from one aspect of the media (movies) back to where he started (standup). I’m pretty sure movies will continue to be made after he leaves.
