More good news for Apple (AAPL) ahead of the 3G iPhone launch, scheduled for next Friday, July 11. Consumers have "unprecedented" demand for Apple's phone, according to new data from RBC's Technology Adoption Panel. From RBC analyst Mike Abramsky's note:
Good news for Apple and its rivals: 10.5% of panelists intend to buy a smartphone -- any smartphone -- up from 7%-8% average over the last few years. That's a bigger addressable market for Apple and RIM, Microsoft, etc.

If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
After about three months, I gave my iPhone to my son. I loved its Internet capabilities, its slick aesthetics, etc. I LOATHED the keyboard, however, and since my cellphone is my business lifeline, it had to go.
My pent-up demand is for the upcoming Blackberry Bold. Now there’s a good looking phone, and nothing beats Blackberry when it comes to business comms.

I hate the AT&T coverage in Seattle and you can only use them with the Iphone. Sorry Jobs, you won’t get my business till you dump your exclusive carrier arrangements.
AT&T is notorious for over subscribing their networks and you get dropped calls constantly with them. I’m sure its going to get even worse with everyone doing large data downloands on their 3G network.
Actually, I've heard that AT&T has been quite a bit into upgrading their backbones for the very purpose of handling 3G communications. I'm just waiting until my Verizon plan expires in January.
Wouldn’t matter - since the iPhone is a world phone, it runs on the GSM radio network. (The rest of the world uses GSM; most US carriers use the incompatible and cheeseparing CDMA system.)
There’s only two companies in the US with a GSM net - ATT and TMobile. TMobile is so bad as to be basically unusable anyway in most areas.
So, even if you got an unlocked iPhone... what would you do with it???
I’ll be in line to get one as soon as they’re available. It’s my husband’s father’s day gift. Then, I might get MY iphone back!! :-)
Also, as a current iPhone user, I can tell you that I don’t have a dropped call problem and that my data downloads are pretty quick, even for 2.5G.
I was a long time ATT user. I used to have the infamous dropped calls problem - then I dumped the crappy Nokias they gave away for free at the time and went to a Motorola RAZR. The problem went away.
As for oversubscribing, not seeing it. And I’m a heavy user, 4-7000 minutes a month.
Apple screwed the first group of suckers and now they have a ton more? Proves a sucker is born every minute.
Sure you did.......
Dang I hope Jobs don't see this post, he probably won't sleep for a month.
The people who are losing sleep right about now are the carriers that didn't go with Apple.
My carrier, verizon, who I hate with a passion, will be losing my business within 90 days when my current contract expires. The Apple iPhone 3g, combined with MobileMe (the new .Mac upgrade) and a home Mac will give me the most comprehensive and consistent computing platform on the market today.
I've proven that accurate over the course of my life.
Admit it. You got your tagline from Quinn.

What’s that supposed to mean? You think I DIDN’T give my iPhone to my son? Why on Earth would I make up something like that?
Shaking head...
MM
Someone sold a big block of AAPL just before the market closed today - 463,055 sh. @ 167.44
My Verizon expires later next year and I can't wait to move to the 3G when that happens.
$77 million or so. Wow. Was it an insider, or do you know?
I was hoping to win half that amount in the Lottery over the weekend...
Very very nice.
Does it float like in the picture?
Just jokin’
Congratulations!
I already have an iPhone and was thinking of getting the 2nd gen, BUT I just bought a 24” iMac and I am holding off the iPhone for a while.
I will just get the 2.0 update and the MeMobile :)
If you didn't I apologize. Most comments like that come from some one with an agenda. Having read your bio, I see that you are an IT service guy.
Wow. Such corporatism. I didn't know I was insulting your favorite sports team corporation.
Apology accepted. I did love having a bunch of LAW-AND-ORDER episodes in my pocket when I found myself stuck in an airport somewhere. Just couldn’t get used to the difficult comms of the glass keyboard.
MM
You should have stuck with the keyboard on the iphone, at first it is clumsy but after a while it learns words you have used previously and typing on it becomes second nature. I can type really fast on it now, WAY better than I could the first couple of weeks.
I gave it three months, Bob. The keyboard and my fingers just didn’t play well together. The good news is that my son, who was a fanatical Mac-hater, just as fanatically loves the iPhone. He types like it was a computer keyboard. Won’t even let people hold it, LOL.
MM
Well I should have explained that I sharpened my pointer finger in a pencil sharpener to gain increased accuracy, I guess I can’t expect everyone to adapt to a changing world. ; )
I’m a sucker for electronic toys, good luck with your next phone.
That is SO UNFAIR!!!
I want one...don’t need it but I WANT it!
Ironically, Apple approached Verizon about the iPhone, and Verizon told them to take a hike—they didn’t want to implement Visual Voicemail.
Apple then went to AT&T and the rest is history.
Awesome!
You have no idea how much I would love to add to that pent up demand, but the two locations where I need AT&T service (my home in Maryland and my vacation home in Pennsylvania), AT&T provides no bars while Verizon Wireless provides a strong signal.
I just ordered two LG Dares from Verizon today for the wife and me.
Apple...thanks for screwing those of us who love Apple products but can’t use this one.

Got it for travel (and for wife’s lectures). It beats my 17” lap burner. This thing is slick!
Me too! Sweet.
I seldom get a dropped call on my iPhone. The only time that occurs is when the signal is weak.
Why, then, does the iPhone have a 89% satisfaction rating among users compared to the next highest phone owners group which is just slightly above 50%? Apparently almost 90% don't feel "screwed." I know I don't.
Sweet!
I hear they are selling iAnchors to prevent them from floating away...
:^)>
No joke. I wouldn’t leave it on a table where there are high winds. I’ve already hooked it to our 63” Sony and watched some of the online videos from Veoh, Hulu and liketelevision. I’ll be experimenting with this for some time. I’m afraid, based on the price of the Air that Apple may be a bit ahead of their time. We have a 2lb HP projectior. With the Air, I hardly notice the weight in the carry on.
Verizon (and Bell Atlantic before them) were customers of mine for years. I once was involved in a negotiation with them, and I know why Apple told them to pound sand. Verizon demands that EVERYTHING they provide their customer have their own logo very prominently displayed. Look at all their phones, you can barely tell the manufacturer - most people think Verizon makes the phone. I can't even image an iPhone with a big Verizon logo on it, but I guarantee you that beyond the terms of any contract, that was a central reason the deal wasn't done with Verizon. Now, nearly every person I know is just waiting for their contracts to expire so that they can jump ship...
I had a verizon AND a sprint... I dumped Verizon for the 1.0 iPhone. I keep sprint as the back up for areas where I dont get good att. Verizon was flat out shortsighted and stupid.
Really? Pent up demand?
I didn’t realize that there were that many single guys who lived with 3 cats out there.
I've got Panther, Tiger, and Leopard... but I'm not single.
Thought this teardown might interest you -
