Vanity Post...How does your Congressperson get to work?

While watching CSpan yesterday they were debating a bill to pour more dollars into mass transit. I got to wondering how the majority of CongressCritters and their staff get to work. Do you think they utilize DC's mass transit system?

OK folks...how about calling your representative's office and your senator's office...lets' see if they practice what the preach.

I have been told that Rush (Holt, my congresscritter) does indeed take the DC Metro to the capitol. While back in his district, however, he is shuttle around in an SUV (very green of you, Rush), although his staffers have been talking about scrapping it.

My Representatives are from Texas and they don't preach that nonsense. I hope they all drive Hummers.

I’ll bet a lot of the congress commies ride in a bullet-proof limo that gets 5 mpg. I’ll bet their walled enclaves use more energy than the homes of typical little people. But, they’re special, don’t you know?

I tee off the 10th hole at my golf course and can almost hit my Reps house here in Ohio. Requires a very strong 300+ yard push, tho.

I;ve come close on my better (?) days.

I've never seen him without a cigarette in hand so I'm guessing mass transit is out. Although if a drinking/smoking car is involved, he'd be all for it I'm sure.

Actually, I’m still WAITING for my Congresscritters to get to work. So far, they’re all fiddling while America burns. If we don’t stop them NOW, ESPECIALLY with their inaction over domestic drilling and production of oil; over refusing the fix the mortgage crisis which THEIR legislation precipitated; with their refusal to act on illegal immigration, we will find ourselves as the new peon class waking up in our haciendas in MexiAmnada and wondering (too late, as usual) how we got here.

Depending on where their office is, the closest DC metro stop can be a bit of a hike.

Union Station is a couple of blocks from the Senate office buildings, although it takes a while just to get out of Union Station and onto the street.

Capitol South is a bit closer to some of the House office buildings, but not all of them.

I hope they walk. We, taxpayers, pay for the Congresscritters' cars and their gas and their aides' cars, &c. I wouldn't look for them to have to declare this perq as income either.

Once they get there, there is a fleet of limosines to pick them up and take them wherever they need to go, say, over to CNN studios, on “official” business. For security and safety’s sake, ya know. And the networks will send a limo over to pick them up if there isn’t a fleet limo available. In the Senate, nearly all have drivers on their office payroll.

I'll say it one more time. My Representatives do a good job for me.

It's sort of funny because whenever people I know have a problem getting something they want from a government agency I suggest that they call their Representative's office and let them handle it. I generally add that they are eager to do favors for people because the favors generally build loyalty which turns into votes. This has obviously worked in your case.

I am always mindful that they are doing these favors with other people's money. It doesn't seem to bother you that while these guys draw a salary that isn't enough for them so they vote to have us peons pay for their cars and their gas and their gyms and their restaurants and their junkets and their pensions and their megastaffs and probably a lot more that I didn't think of. It doesn't seem to bother you, but it bothers me.

Yep, they are broom riders but I am going to nail good old Difi. Last year I sent her an email protesting her anti-gun stance and she had an email(I know full well she didn’t send it herself)sent that explained that owning a gun was a collective right and individuals didn’t have that right as it had never been upheld by the Supremes. Well, now I am going to send her a copy of her email along with a little note asking her what she says now that the Supremes have ruled that it is an individual right. I will be as crappy as I can be and get away with it.

Listen Sherlock. Go ply your crap on DU. It doesn't work around here. In your first post to me on this thread you wrote:

This was in response to my pointing out that we the taxpayers pay for your Representatives car. The only way to read you post quoted above is, "I don't care if he gives himself expensive perqs with other people's money so long as he delivers for me." We're in real trouble because the majority of voters feel just as you do.

Look. I know you don't care. It's obvious to me that you are a disruptor.

The way things work here at FR is that if you post something, especially something stupid, other members here can call you on it. That's what I did. You say you want all the Congresscritters to drive expensive cars. I point out that we the people pay for those cars, and you say this is changing the topic and besides it doesn't matter because your Congresscritters are such wonderful people. Well, to me and most others here, it does matter. If you don't like my pointing out the idiocy in your comments, I suggest you find some other place to play.

While traveling back and forth to DC for various work assignments, I’ve seen a few back benchers on the Metro wearing their Congressional pins. Never Reid or Pelosi though.

It's amazing to me that you could be so impressed with your representatives voting records that you don't care about how much they steal. How have "your" representatives voted on congressional pensions? Do you even know? How have they voted on those Hummers you would give them for nothing? Do you even know? How about funding for the Department of Education? Do you know? But it's okay 'cause they're the Candymen.
