British Ads Launched To Stop Binge-Drinking

London, England (AHN) - The Home Office has launched advertisements to warn 18- to 24-year-olds about the consequences of binge drinking.

The TV ad that says "You wouldn't start a night like this, so why end it that way?" shows a young man injuring himself, being violent, urinating on his shoes and pouring a takeaway meal on his shirt just before he was about to go out.

Another ad depicts a young woman smearing her make-up, tearing her clothes and putting vomit on her hair.

Advertisements in the internet also show aftermaths of a binge-drinking session where a man smashed a kebab shop and a woman got into a car with a stranger.

The L4 million campaign will be shown all over England and Wales in the evening and late nights so that viewers will see it before and after night-outs.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith believes that the campaign would get people to think twice about the effects of losing control.

Binge drinking not only impairs health but also puts people in danger. Drunk people are more prone to accidents and assaults, sexually-transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies, Smith added.

Actually, those ads ARE rather clever. It’s money down a rat-hole, but they are clever. :)

I used to think I drank a lot in College, until I started working with a lot of Brits.

Almost every night they head to the "pub" after work, and they don't have a drink or two - they get roaring drunk, and come to work the next morning hungover. It's impressive, in a train wreck sort of way.

Yeah, I like the concepts, but if hangovers aren’t a sufficient argument against binge drinking, I’m not sure those ads will be.

“It’s impressive, in a train wreck sort of way.”

I had a husband like that, once. (The operative word here is “HAD.”) ;)

How about using this approach?

I'll drink to THAT!
