Friday the 13th is considered unlucky because on Friday October 13, 1309 the leadership of the Knights Templar including Grand Master Jacques DeMolay were rounded up and imprisoned at the order of the King of France and the Pope.
DeMolay was subsequently burned at the stake on March 18, 1314.

Good Morning!
It’s Payday.
Well, it would be if I were “gainfully employed”. For me, that’s an oxymoron.

If I can’t pronounce a word it is useless to me.
How the heck is this one pronounced? I can’t even read this one straight!
However it is, it seems that Triskaidekaphobia is much easier to say, and it seems a perfectly good synonym.

I guess in the future we’ll just try not to take prisoners, and when we have to we’ll outsource the prisoner holding to the Egyptians....
And the Egyptians do not have our scruples when it comes to prisoners.

TriscuitdekaphobiaWord For The Day Thread Eats 6/13/08
The chef is here. Good eats for everyone.
Triskaidekaphobia is not the fear of nutritious snack crackers. It is the fear of the number 13. The idea that Friday the thirteenth is unlucky goes back to the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon otherwise known as the Knights Templar. The success of the Templars was tied closely to the success of the Crusades. When the Holy Land was lost and the Templars suffered crushing defeats, support for the Order's existence faltered. Rumors about the Templars' secret initiation ceremony caused mistrust, and King Philip IV of France, deeply in debt to the Order, began pressuring Pope Clement V to take action. Things came to a head on Friday, October 13, 1307, when King Philip caused many of the Order's members in France to be arrested, tortured into "confessions", and burned at the stake.
