Bacteria make major evolutionary shift in the lab
New Scientist ^

A major evolutionary innovation has unfurled right in front of researchers' eyes. It's the first time evolution has been caught in the act of making such a rare and complex new trait.
And because the species in question is a bacterium, scientists have been able to replay history to show how this evolutionary novelty grew from the accumulation of unpredictable, chance events.

But sometime around the 31,500th generation, something dramatic happened in just one of the populations the bacteria suddenly acquired the ability to metabolise citrate, a second nutrient in their culture medium that E. coli normally cannot use. Cool!

Micro-changes to DNA over millions of years = the 2% genetic and 6% genomic difference between humans and chimps = “macro” evolutionary change.
Pretty simple really.

Not exactly. To paraphrase C.S. Lewis: Science teaches us HOW God created the world, the Bible teaches us WHY.

Incomplete; but then, Biblical exegesis wasn’t Lewis’ strong point. Perhaps more like, “The Bible teaches us to what end God created the universe in six normal days.”

six normal days Except, the Bible doesn't say six 'normal' days, it uses the term Yom which can translate as a 12 hour day, 24 hour day, or an 'age' of indeterminate amount of time (such as "in the Day of the Lord" that is often used.)

It's the first time evolution has been caught in the act of making such a rare and complex new trait. Odd. I've been told many times on this board that macroevolution has been observed many times in the lab. But according to this article, this was a First.
And because the species in question is a bacterium ...
Oh. Singular. I see. We're still talking about one species so I guess this isn't macroevolution.

The Bible also teaches us how behave, how to live, how to love, how to give, how to forgive, how to ask forgiveness, how to find our way home, how to raise our children, how to pray, who to bind our allegiance to...
The Bible does tell us How God created the world. He spoke it into existence through Jesus Christ - the Word.
For by Him was everything made that was made.
Every time God said, “Let there be...” and there was.
If that’s not specific enough for you, then you and C.S. Lewis are right, the Bible does not teach us How.

Odd. I've been told many times on this board that macroevolution has been observed many times in the lab. But according to this article, this was a First. No, you need to re-read the entry. Take the words literally. It is the first time we have seen evolution making a new and rare trait. That does not mean it is the first example of evolution within the lab, but the first time for this new and rare trait, much more of a complex jump than typically witnessed.

If that's not specific enough for you, then you and C.S. Lewis are right, the Bible does not teach us How. It is the specifics we are discussing. Just as God said 'let there be light', but he didn't give us specifics as to what light is. He didn't discuss photons, waves, energy components, etc. If one applied the same lack of specifics, then one would have to determine that light was just made up of God's voice.
The Bible does give us many clues as to how God created the world, unfortunately many people overlook the clues. For example, in Genesis it specifically states over and over: ..and the Earth brought forth.. Seems pretty obvious that God spoke the process into existence but the process he made involved a physical earthly process.

Hmmm... I’ve been told that Creationism can’t be science, and yet this religion of evolution is,
because it is a experimentally repeatable theory.
So you’re saying that this is the first observation of such a change, and yet the evos have been spouting that evolution has been experimentally “proven” for years?
I guess that drawing of the evolution of Man must be the “proof”.
I’m going to go draw a picture of an alien as proof of aliens.

That’s how calculus works - you add up a bunch of zeros, and get a non-zero answer (as in lim dx—>0).

The problem with the infallible Bible theory is that we don’t know who wrote much of the Bible, or when. So, like an artwork of uncertain provenance, we can’t determine whether it’s genuine. This means if we do science with the Bible, we cannot expect to be able to test our scientific hypotheses.
To: megatherium
The great thing about the fact of the inerrant Scripture is that we know a great deal about when most of it was written, and by whom; and above all that, we have the unimpeachable eyewitness testimony of Jesus Christ as to its veracity. It provides an unshakable foundation on which to build as contrasted with the solipsistic, circular speculations of naturalistic scientism.

The Bible has proven that God woke up at 8am on October 23, 4004 BC, showered at 8:30, made coffee and 8:45, and created the Earth at 9.
