cheap and gaudy in appearance or quality; also : ignoble
Example sentence:

In the 7th century, Etheldreda, the queen of Northumbria, renounced her husband and her royal position for the veil of a nun. I have a friend who had this with strep throat two years ago and wound up in ICU with a trach. Very scary. Speaking of scary, I just had my first driving lesson with my child. He did pretty well. 1 hour down, 49 to go.
