Having seen a few stories addressing a potential new Cold War, can anyone recommend a good book or two about the actual Cold War? I realized that my knowledge about it is lacking, and I'd like to read a non-liberal (ha, is it possible?) version of the Cold War history. I was born when it was "ending" and my high school and college courses mentioned it only fleetingly. Thanks for any suggestions!
Personally, I enjoy reading the accounts of KGB and other defectors. There are dozens.
I liked “Reagan’s War” by Peter Schweitzer. It looks at the fight against communism as it involved Ronald Reagan, who fought communists from his days in Hollywood in the 40’s to his Presidency in the 80’s.
May I recommend a book with the note that I am the author?
You may enjoy several of the stories in my anthology “Humanity’s Edge”, which includes war between different branches of humanity as well social movements (environmentalists versus the rest of us).
I strongly recommend a 4-part series by PBS from a few years ago called “Red Files”.
The first part, “Secrets of the KGB” covers the Americans who spied for Russia. “Soviet Propaganda” is another part that’s chilling, about life under Stalin.
Here’s the Web site with photos, interviews, and background material:

Cold War madness!
