Robert Asprin (1946-2008)
On May 22, 2008, Bob passed away quietly in his home in New Orleans, LA. He had been in good spirits and working on several new projects, and was set to be the Guest of Honor at a major science fiction convention that very weekend. He is survived by his mother, his sister, his daughter and his son, and his cat, Princess, not to mention countless friends and fans and numerous legendary fictional characters. He will be greatly missed.

Robert (Lynn) Asprin was born in 1946. While he’s written some stand alone novels such as Cold Cash War, Tambu and The Bug Wars and also the Duncan and Mallory Illustrated stories, Bob is best known for his series fantasy, such as the Myth Adventures of Aahz and Skeeve, the Phules Company novels, and, more recently, the Time Scout novels written with Linda Evans. He also edited the groundbreaking Thieves World anthology series with Lynn Abbey. His most recent collaborations include License Invoked (set in the French Quarter of New Orleans where he now lives) and several new Myth Adventures novels, all written with Jody Lynn Nye. Bob is currently working on a new series of contemporary fantasy novels.

I still have most, if not all the “Thieves’ World” books. Great concept. Preffered the earlier ones to the later.

http://webnews.sff.net/read?cmd=read&group=sff.discuss.obituaries&artnum=12778 I just got off the phone with Bill Fawcett. He says what I thought - that this was totally unexpected. Bob seemed in great shape physically. His last checkup had been fine - no known problems.
Bill said that SFWA member Darlene Bolesny had come to pick Bob up to drive him to be Guest of Honor at MarCon. She found him slumped on the sofa with an sf book in his hand. She called 911 and the paramedics worked a long time trying to revive him but he was gone.
The sad part is that Bob was writing again. He'd finished a couple of books recently and had a number of contracts. Everything was looking up for him. He'll be missed very much.

Bob Asprin has long been one of my favorite authors. He will be sorely missed.

I have that book on my shelf, the older ones were the best IMHO.

1946 was the best year, and now half of the reason why is gone; I'm feeling my mortality drawing Nye.

I loved his books. I didn’t realize until today that he had written more “M.Y.T.H.” books after 2001. Looks like I’ll be scrounging through the used book stores again soon.

"I have that book on my shelf, the older ones were the best IMHO." I completely agree. After reading the article, the first thing I thought of, was the first Thieves' World (And it's cover!). And how much I liked it.
