Blacklisted by History

Posted on 03/28/2008 7:57:56 AM PDT by 7thson

I am reading Blacklisted by History: The Untold Story of Senator Joe McCarthy and His Fight Against America's Enemies by M. Stanton Evans and recently started Chapter 36, Scott McLeod, Where Are You? What is remarkable is when M. Stanton Evans is describing the make-up of the Ike administration and the status of the GOP in the early 50's, it sounds very much like what is happening now.

Case in point, Ike's speechwriter was a Emmet Hughes, a self-confessed Democrat. Another case - while staunch conservatives were fighting against communism within government, they would turn a blind eye to their fight in order to put through some of Ike's picks who were security risks - all for the good of the party.

On page 479 Evans writes "...in the 1950's and for a while thereafter, there was indeed an effort under way to new-model the GOP in the image of its opposition. After so many years of Democratic rule, it was argued, the Republican Party could no longer tread the conservative path by the old bulls in Congress."

It seems the old cliche is correct - the more things change, the more they stay the same.

There were Democrats just as Left as today’s back then but there were also Democrats (like the yellow dogs’ grand pappy used to vote for) who would be RINO or Republican today.

The Socialist composition of the Democrat Party has gotten stronger. The Democrats need to take their party back just as conservatives need to take back the Republican Party. Alternatively, conservatives (including elected congressmen) need to leave the GOP (AFTER the 2008 election) for a universally agreed upon new conservative party). No sense in abandoning the Party support in the 2008 election before election day.

And there is no “crime” in changing party affiliation after the election. Just look at Jeffords’ betrayal that returned Congressional power to the Democrats.

It is true.

Liberalism is the path of least resistance and is for weaklings and cowards.

Conservatism requires courage and hard work. That is why we must fight for our principles and not just support the party regardless.

Since liberalism is doomed to failure, a conservative faction must be ready to resume power when liberalism's collapse becomes apparent.

The challenge of the Cold War doomed liberals during the latter half of the last century. Because liberalism induces weakness and slumber.

Out of our national slumber will rise a new leader. We must wait and keep our powder dry.
