Better 30-30 gun for whitetails: Ruger Mini-30 or Auto Ordnance M1 carbine?

Any 30 caliber, 30-30, .308, 30.06 is fine for whitetail...buy two and stock up on the relatively easy to find ammo.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I don't have a muzzle break, but the gas port fitting seems like an interesting place to go.

I've competed in High Power rifle for years and reloaded for even longer. This Ruger is definitely the worst shooting rifle I've ever owned, and that's a lot of rifles.

Please understand i'm in west TX, not many shots inside 100 yrds. I have a Marlin in 35 Remington that makes a great hog gun as well as the 30-30.

Forgot this thread. Mirror image of where I'm usually usually hunt, generally under 100. A couple of nice bucks.

When I cleaned the cosomoline off my Enfield I cheated and just dropped all the metal parts into a shallow pan made from a plastic bag wrapped around a cardboard box and filled with gasoline.

As long as no one plays with matches it works like a champ.

I already gave you three sources not counting wikipedia. I’m pretty sure you will find that Hornady sells .312” dia bullets for use in the 303 british and other foreign 30 caliber rifles, while speer sells .311” dia bullets for the same rifles. I don’t have my hornady and speer books at home so I can’t give you page numbers and publish dates.
