BOSTON -- Hit 'em where they ain't is ancient advice to baseball batters. Now statistics explain why it works.
Based on his time with the Texas Rangers, Alex Rodriguez is one of the game's best shortstops, according to researchers led by Shane T. Jensen of the University of Pennsylvania. Rodriguez now plays third base for the New York Yankees.
Using a complex statistical method, researchers concluded that one of the worst at shortstop is A-Rod's teammate, three-time Gold Glove winner Derek Jeter. The findings were presented Saturday at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

But how many times has A-Rod been on the cover of GQ?
If Jeter’s really among the worst, does Girardi have the guts to make the change?
I was told that although Jeter doesn’t have a big range, he catches just about everything within his range.
I suppose if his range is so bad he can't get to 10% of the balls someone with better range could, that would make a huge difference.
I always suspected they should have moved Cletus Boyer to SS and Kubek to 2B. Problem was Richardson as he earned that position. And Moose Skowron at 1B got very vocal about it. Yogi sided with Casey Stengel and then the team went out and dominated the American League.
who at third, Elston Howard?
No, Who was on first
ya got me
Gil MacDougle
sounds like he's costing them runs. After all, the reason why Rollins won NL MVP over Holliday, despite Holliday's better numbers was the very fact he plays the most important defensive position.
they say he was never the same after he bonked Herb Score.
What?
Could always bring back Jerry Lumpe from the KC A’s.
yeah, the Yankees’ farm team
I bet we could use him in Ahaheim.
sounds like he’d rather be there than second base
People overestimate his skill based on the number of acrobatic catches and throws he makes. What they miss is that those same plays would be routine for most shortstops, and when the typical shortstop makes a dive it’s a ball Jeter would never come close to.
Is Jeter overrated? Yes.
Is Pay-Rod overpaid? No.
How many championships does A-Rod have?
Oh, and ‘GO SOX!!’
Mark Belanger.
Cheers!
