Ohio State Buckeyes v. LSU Tigers: Live Thread
Buckeye Supporting Freepers! ^ | 7 Jan 07 | GoBucks

Posted on 01/07/2008 10:39:05 AM PST by gobucks

Well, in a few hours, a few LSU folks will recall with dread the name Greg Frey. Yep, the Buckeye quarterback no one remembers but die-hard Buckeye and LSU fans. The quarterback who led the team to one of the most spectacular comebacks ever witnessed at Ohio Stadium.

As Wikipedia puts it: On September 24, 1988, he rallied Ohio State from a 33-20 deficit in the final four minutes for a 36-33 victory over the ninth-ranked LSU Tigers.

I was at that game in the shoe, urging all the fans who were leaving early to stay put. It was gratifying to see them pour back in as the miracle comeback unfolded. When Bobby Olive made that flying catch in the end zone for the win, I distinctly remember sharing overwhelmingly jubilant joy with thousands of other Buckeyes around me.

The LSU fans who shuffled back to their cars were morose indeed .... it's a long long drive to Louisiana from Ohio. These same fans are now hoping for a dose of that gloom to be heaped upon the carloads of Bucknuts on their way back home from the Dome tonight.

I have some advice for Tiger fans: don't buy the extra beer for the party after the game. The spirit of Greg Frey is with us still.

OSU over Tigers, 24-21.

OSU will be back again, I think. But LSU aint going away either. The flow of talent into the school just isn’t fair.

The winner of the LSU-Florida game next year may decide who gets back to the BCS game, of course Georgia may have something to say about that.

The SEC is going to be brutal next year.

The funniest part of that game is that Mike Dubose is the coach at Millsaps. Why did Bama hire him way back when?

On another note, our daughter was born a few blocks away from Millsaps.

Georgia is amazing. My new favorite player now that McFadden is gone is Knowshon Moreno. Wonder if he'll come out after next yr? He's gotta be in the mix for the Heisman next yr already.

He'd sure look good with the star on his helmet.

The last drive made it clear...whoever picked these refs should be embarrasesd. “Roughing” followed by a chickenbleep personal foul. It calls into question the fact that LSU just got their first penalty. Bullclinton.

Three of our other children were born just down the street from the site of last year’s game-changing performance winner. That would be Bryant-Denny Stadium. :-) I think the Prothro catch is better than this year’s winner.

I don’t hate OSU. I hate bad football games and matchups.
Pretty much all the Bowl games have sucked. I am actually rooting for the Buckeyes to come back and make this a game, thats all. ;)

I’m surprised the refs didn’t throw a flag for “excessive in their eyes” celebration on that TD.

Georgia might be preseason #1 0r #2 in 08.

Would have been nice to see a little playoff betwixt Georgia, LSU, USC and W V. this yr.

After a 40-year period of constancy in membership, the Conference expanded to 11 members for the first time. On June 4, 1990, the Council of Presidents voted to confirm its earlier decision to integrate Pennsylvania State University into the Conference.

Yep, Ohio State had a little life until then, the QB has to get the ball away, he had the time, he just should have forced it, instead of taking the sack.

The SEC already takes care of its playoff system. Georgia failed to win the West Division of the SEC. Every conference game counts from the first week of the season. It would have been great to see Georgia/LSU play. But Georgia did not come through when it counted early on. That’s ok. They’ll most likely get there next year.

I’d rather not see games like they have in the NFL where teams decide to roll over because they’ve already won their division and don’t need to win another game to make it to the playoffs.
