The Miami Dolphins have fired coach Cam Cameron after his only season produced only one win. Cameron was fired Thursday by new Dolphins' boss Bill Parcells, which means the reeling franchise will have its fifth head coach in five seasons in 2008.

This is not a surprise, considering that Bill Parcells wants coaches of the quality that Parcells is familiar with.

I thought Cameron was a bad choice in the first place. His selling point was “I made Ladanian”; which was a total lie.

fifth head coach in five seasons

Who would dare take that job?

They'd be lucky to get a high school coach.

They’ll be able to pick up Wade Phillips just as soon as JJ whacks him after the ‘Boys lose in the playoffs. That is, if Wade is over his neck surgery. I’m told he will have to have ligament repair from all the nodding he did when ever JJ sent down orders. Hell I even heard they’re talking about a Wade Phillips bobblehead doll.

Remember Jimmy Johnson was 1-15 in his first season with the Dallas Cowboys back in 1990.

Jimmy Johnson never called for his quarterback to spike the ball on first down with 1:11 to play in the half, a time out still available and 9 yards to go for a touchdown.

''Absolutely,'' Cameron said when asked if the spike was his call. ``We were in great shape there.'' ............... The team was in great shape with four plays to go 9 yards. Take away one of those opportunities from an offense that obviously needs every chance it can get, and you suddenly are going from great shape to just OK. The decision looked even worse when Lemon waited 24 seconds to call a timeout before the failed fourth-down play. That gave time for even the referee to potentially ask, ``Why, exactly, did your coach ask you to spike the ball on first down again?''

If Jerry Jones fired Wade Phillips after going 1-15, ESPN would claim that JJ is the Devil.

But since the talking heads at ESPN are drunk on the Bill Parcell’s koolaide, they don’t care.

No way to get around being the coach of a team that went one-and-fifteen. Who will The Tuna hire as coach I wonder? Some Parcells acolyte? Someone from the college ranks (I doubt it!)? Stay tuned!

The Cowboys of 1990 had potential though - they at least had Troy Aikman at QB. What have the Dolphins of 2007 got? Other than Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas they don’t have any standout talent, and even those two are getting on in years....

“Remember Jimmy Johnson was 1-15 in his first season with the Dallas Cowboys back in 1990.”

True, but they were completely reinventing that team. IIRC.
They made one of the best trades ever, Herschel Walker for the 5 high draft picks. Great move by the Cowboys.

Nick Saban rides off into the sunset at Alabama and Cameron gets canned. You could have had the perfect coaching making every perfect call this season and the Dolphins weren’t winning more than four games.

I love the revisionist history with Parcells’ drafts. Most have them have stunk.

His drafts with the Jets were horrible!

he did a lot better putting the Cowboys together, with help from the guys he’s bringing with him to Little Havana.

They actually did okay in NY. MeShawn was a great pick up for them and they had a good core of players for a few years. That was certainly a team that went from bad to good in a few years.

Fatty is good at turning around franchises. He gets too much credit though. His staff in NE and NY were both very, very good. Dallas had some good guys as well. Still, having a good staff says something about a coach as well.

Bill is one of the ESPN guys so yes, they will give him props.

Hiring Fatty is something you have to do with your eyes wide open. He rebuilt the Pats into a SB appearance in 4 years, he turned the Jets around in two years and the Cowboys improved a great deal under him as well. However, he also gets a lot of credit that his assistants deserve. Those Giant defenses were Belichick’s. Same in 1996-1999 with NE/NY.

Cameron was supposed to be the fresh start.

The ENTIRE coaching staff was canned. Are you kidding me? This is pure cronyism. Say what you want about Cameron, but we had some high-quality assistant coaches: Houck, Robiskie, Shea, Jackson.

I wanted Keith Armstrong to get fired, but not like THIS.

Time for another building-from-scratch season in 2008. Nevermind that 2007 was supposed to be just that...

Aaah, yes to a certain extent. Guess I was thinking more along the lines of clearing house and drafting young speed. The Dolphins were relying on the likes Williams and a bunch of free agents/rejects. Not to mention 5 coaches in 5 years. At least Johnson knew he would have some time to work his plan. But I get your point.

I seriously doubt anyone can live up to the big fat-assed Tuna’s expectations so he’ll end up coaching the team for a couple of years and **retire** again, a few million richer.

I hope the Dolphins never win a game under that blowhard/egomaniac.

Bill Parcells’ record in his first year as head coach.

Yeah, he didn’t extend the same courtesy to Cameron as was extended to him. Parcells’ career was made because Howard Schnellenberger didn’t want to coach the Giants.

Cameron got screwed big-time in all this, and I wouldn’t blame him if he became OC at Buffalo and killed the Dolphins twice a year.

The “fifth head coach in five seasons” stat is somewhat false, as it includes interim coach Jim Bates, who took over for Wannstedt when that asshole quit after being informed his contract would not be renewed after the 2004 season.

In reality, the Dolphins have had two head coaches in the last three years, which is just as bad as “five in five years,” but at least it’s accurate respective to the facts.

No, I won’t be thankful. The reset button was just hit AGAIN, except this time the guy who hit it wants to bring in people he knows rather than the best people for the job.

Cameron was the solution to the Dolphins’ biggest problem since 1999: the quarterback position. So much for that!

I’m really wishing Huizenga didn’t go for the big name this time. Tom Heckert, Jr. would’ve been a Godsend to the Dolphins.

I think there should be an NFL coaching carousel thread, instead of multiple threads for every hiring, firing, vacancy, scuttlebutt, interview etc. Would be easier for everyone one to follow. This typically lasts through the SB. Whatcha say?

Here's stuff on McDaniels who clearly has good sense as shown here:

Despite interest from 2 teams, Pats' McDaniels won't interview for coaching jobs

Probably should be a Free Agency thread come 3-2 too. But maybe that's too ambitious.

Coaching news from DMN—”Falcons owner Arthur Blank is coming into town to interview assistant head coach Tony Sparano and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett and, as Todd reports, that’s just the start of it. The Ravens are interested in both, and the Dolphins have requested to speak with Sparano.”
