KANAB UTAH 17 miles down The road-
A charter plane carried 22 dogs here Wednesday for a second chance at life. NFL quarterback Michael Vick raised the dogs for fighting. Now Vick is doing time, and the dogs are under the care of Best Friends Animal Society in a redrock canyon five miles north of this southern Utah city. The turboprop airplane, chartered by Best Friends, arrived shortly after 3 p.m. and the portable kennels containing the dogs were unloaded onto a truck for transport to their new home.
"We want them to get settled and comfy so we can start working with them and see their personalities emerge," said Patty Hagwood, the director of animal care for Best Friends, the largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the country. She said, if possible, the dogs will be rehabilitated so they can be adopted out.

Are you sure it isn’t where all the unloved, and abused go!
Just kidding, I think.
This is a very interesting situation. This outfit has really figured out how to raise money. Their motto is not “it’s for the children”, but it’s for the dogs. Not local dogs but dogs that get national attention in the press.

IMO it wouldn't be wise to adopt those dogs.
No kill sanctuary? One of these days the dogs may just turn it in to a “kill the human” sanctuary.
Man these enviro-wacks are weird.
“Best Friends” is a last refuge kind of place. They take in animals from all over the world, but the animals that end up staying are the “lost causes”. It’s an enormous operation that cares for thousands of animals. If this publicity helps them raise money, then more’s the better.
It’s not the truth that matters, it’s the intention and the good press that says “Best Friends is So Special”.
Do you work for them? If not, how do you know what they actually do?
No, but I donate from time to time. They’re doing good work.
Great. I was hoping to adopt a couple of Michael Vick’s dogs for my kids for Christmas.
I’ll check that out. You’ll need to send a donation of about $10,000 to get anybody to listen to you.
I’m a dog lover, but I would never adopt those dogs.
I'll bet money the dogs have a better chance at rehabilitation.
Oh, but Vick has already repented and apologized.(after he got caught)

not my work...found on the internet when looking for
the Michael Vick chew toy for dogs.
LOL
And...
..take a trip south to see the NORTH rim of the GC, where only about 10% of the visitors go.
(Hard to get to and the views aren't all that grand.)
But, one can go east for a while and come to Lee's Ferry, where the only one who got punished for the MMM, had set up a homestead!

A recent visit to Lonely Dell, the Lee farm at Lee's Ferry we see the entry gate, the dugout and the side home. Lee's home burned.
When I cuaght up to where he'd gone in, I found him in an irrigation ditch, cooling off! (It was around 107° that day.)
Even with the door off, the root cellar seemed to be about 10-15° cooler inside.
