A couple hundred local soloists get together to do the Messiah every Christmas and they do it for themselves in a small church sanctuary. They don’t tolerate changes to the performance.

I should have remembered to post this earlier. And of course that should be "First Sunday Music" if the mods would be kind enough to change it.

Brings bad a lot of memories. Of course it has been quite a while since I was second seap Treble/Soprano. I haven’t been able to hit F above High C in 16 years.

I could barely hit High C playing cornet. You should be proud. Merry Christmas!

Wow- this is such a WONDERFUL surprise!

I grew up in New England- and every fall choirs from all denominations in several villages would start practicing Wednesday evenings...the entire Messiah. It was astounding. At Christmas-time they would perform it for 3-4 nights. Starting when I was about 6 I remember going with my grandmother (my parents sang in the choir) to listen ...goose bumps just remembering it:) Imagine being little and listening to the local fishermen, carpenters, bankers and doctors, waitresses, teachers- some with beautiful voices..singing The Messiah..

I must have lost my CD of The Messiah- spent two days looking for it - then forgot to pick one up at the store.

FR has EVERYTHING!

Thank you so so much for posting this with links- I’m listening now- my Christmas is complete!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

As the year closes, I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas and wish you all a happy, healthy and wealthy New Year.

I'd like to remind all that a complete compilation of the First Sunday Music threads and music can be found here. If there are a few postings that you missed, I hope you enjoy.

If you have any preference of composer or artist, please freepmail. I enjoy that.

But most of all, the thread is dedicated to those who serve our country, veterans, families and friends.

God bless them.

HH
