Ludwig van Beethoven
Special Broadcast
Starting today, November 19th, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra will be broadcasting, via the internet, a June, 2006 concert featuring Daniel Barenboim as pianist and conductor in his final appearance with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The concert includes Mozart's Masonic Funeral Music, K. 477, Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, Op. 80, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D Minor, Op. 125.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to hear the recording of Symphony No. 9 on Chicago's local station, WFMT. As you will hear, the applause was tremendous and the commentator went on to say that the ovation lasted 15 minutes with a very rare fanfare to the conductor, an impromptu, honorific response from the orchestra. The chorus and director deserve much appreciation as well.
You can listen to the internet broadcast here.

Thanks for pinging your list, sitetest.
It is a must hear.

Glad Barenboim is going. He was very “stale” compared to the conducting of Sir Georg Solti.

Glad Barenboim is going. He was very stale compared to the conducting of Sir Georg Solti. Barenboim has already left the CSO and I'd agree with your assessment of Solti's fine leadership if it had any relevence to this thread.

I also found quite a few of your posts that I really liked. Not just the sentiment, but the banners as well.
May I borrow from you?

I am always amazed at the work that you, and so many others on FR do in support of our troops, families and friends.

What I do is small indeed for the troops that I owe so much.
