No; it's the Omega Man movie tie-in. The same edition I read about 35 years ago! I located it and am starting in on it again.
Read the book... caught parts of the original movie. Should be worth a ticket...
I wish someone would do a remake of Battleground.
I might have cast Mel Gibson, Tom Selleck, or Pierce Brosnan as Neville.
The original centered alot on the ideological conflict between Western Civ./Technology culture and possible consequenses vs. critics of all that. One problem is that the latter were presented as mere murderous mutant insane religio-cult fanatics. Too cartoonish.
Also, a remake could examine some of the other factional fanaticisms that one might encounter in a post-apocalyptic world.
I think Daniel Craig would be perfect for the role of Neville.
With the nest of commies in Hollyhomowood? No thanks... I'll stick with James Whitmore, Van Johnson, Marshall Thompson, Ricardo Montalban... etc
I think its being redone because its good material that hasn’t been treated well on the screen.
The Vincent Price version of the movie was not done well.
I liked the Omega Man, but it was too 60s-ish. It left lots of room for improvement. I believe it also deviated from the book by quite a bit.
I might actually go see this one. Will Smith wouldn’t have been my choice, but he is a credible actor, so this could be good.
I’ve never seen the beginning of the movie. I always seem to find it halfway through. I could stand a Ridley Scott version.
Pubished in 1954, this is a knockout that I'm embarrassed nobody's turned me on to.
If the film holds true to the book, the film is going to be crazy.
Having actually read the book, I sorta disagree.
The book suggests that this virus is the next evolution of man...as nightwalkers. Eh? How do we intend to get food? We all fall asleep after the sun goes down. Who plants the crops, etc. It's a foolish concept.
I _DO_ like the "everyone dies due to plague" movies like Omega man or The Stand. They offer up very enticing possibilities. I certainly hope they diverge from the book's premise in "I am Legend". The book was called "I am Legend" because at the end, he becomes legend by sacrificing himself and the "vampires" or whatever they are revere him as a saint who lets the new strain of humans go forward.
It REALLY stinks.
that doesn’t surprise me. Can you write a critique without spoiling the movie?
Why wouldn’t they? There’s money to be made from a new generation of fans. Zombie/ end of the world plague movies have been big bank lately, why not try to capitalize on that with a story that they know is good and makes profitable movies. Hollywood has made and remade movies from books since day one, the Maltese Falcon that we all consider the definitive version (Bogart) was the third time around (in 10 years), the definitive Ben Hur (Heston) was the third time around (first time with sound). Hollywood has never believed in the concept of going to the well too often, any movie that makes money will be remade to get more, any movie that doesn’t make money will be remade to get the money they thought it should have.
I like remakes. For one thing some stories seem to take extra tries to get right (watch the first two tries at Maltese Falcon). For another I think they help bring an audience to the old movie (part of this is how the studios work, they didn’t put the original Oceans 11 out on DVD until they were making the remake). Thirdly good movies are rewatchable (hence the DVD market), and if it’s rewatchable it’s remakable. I own Last Man on Earth and love it, I own Omega Man and love, I’m going to see I am Legend Monday I’m hoping to love it.
It’s called temporary suspension of disbelief. Oxygen tanks don’t blow up like in Jaws when shot either, but you go with it because it keeps things fun. The previous two versions of the movie feature the hero driving around and running a generator for electricity too. Just roll with it, movies don’t need to be consistent with reality, they need to be consistent with themselves. Somewhere or another he’s got gas that hasn’t broken down.
Ditto-—
The kind of depressing and terrifying movie that makes ya wanna go home and stick your head in the oven.
I have absolutely no desire to see the movie. Even the trailers are downers!
