From an owner of 2 wallmounted Panasonic plasmas (one 42” and one 50”), I second everything said by TrueKnightGalahad and savedbygrace.
I have also purchased from Visual Apex and Monoprice.com. Both are quality dealers that were very upfront with me.
After you buy your TV, come back for advice on 5.1 surround sound, LFE subwoofers, DVRs, antennas for over the air signals, and best cable or sattelite boxes. Hope you have some money left over, the TV is just the beginning.
Samsung with DLP (Digital Light Projection) It’s the mirrors.
I forgot high-def video game systems and HD-DVD or Blu-Ray.
Sweeeeeeeet.
I went to a local electronics boutique store to strike up a relationship with the store owner. They had 7 rooms set up with various levels of home theater nirvana. They had a special going on that you would get a free 50” Pioneer plasma if you bought a Pioneer Elite (72”?) series tv. Those were 10 grand-ish.
I keep waffling on this flat panel tv issue. On one hand, there’s the hoards of folks buying these tier 3 sets (Visio, Vito, to name a few) who seem perfectly happy. Then the snob in me emerges and reminds me that I am able to detect the performance differences in these sub-$1,000 sets and the premier models (Sharp Aquos / Sony Bravia (XBR2 and later).
It’s just that even if I can tell the difference, can I really tell $2-3,000 difference?
Everything, in reality is a concession. For you, even, you could have gone after the crazy $10K units I supposed but went with the $6K one. What was the deciding factor there?
My willingness to spend so much money, and no more. One must learn to spend less than one has in the bank, or has as available credit (both would apply, in my case.)
Wise advice...my 17" Sony Triniton, purchased in 1983, is just now going to pink screens when I turn it on (rarely)...however, it still perks up after a couple of minutes!!
I have a $99 Plextor HDTV setup with my laptop and 19" monitor, and the over-the-air HD is superb!! Everything from Nova to football is very nice!
bump
I didn’t realize there were so many of us. Been without one a year.
Toshiba gave our sub silent prop secrets tooooooooo Soviets.
Don’t plan to give them any of my $$$
I use to not have a television until I got married. The wife insists, but we only have one and it’s just an average size CRT color television. I rarely watch and I wish she’d turn it off a little more, but marriage is all about compromise.
True. True.
I do miss the educational channels and Stargate! There’s a big CRT that works fine out in the carport. Needed the space. Might eventually get the computers hooked up to the Direct TV feed. Should, or cancel the extra bit for the 2nd item. Dad still watches his in his room.
Per your request...
Plasma TVs don't work well at altitude.Plasma screens burn-in.
Life-span drops sharply at altitude.
DLPs work very well but are deeper.
What do you mean by altitude?
Get one with an HD tuner.
If it’s Chinese, there could be lead paint, so don’t lick the paint.
Unless you live in West Texas there is not much altitude in Texas.
Live in Houston. LOL More like the swamp here.
Really nice.
LOL I may have to watch my dogs. Thanks for the reminder.
