Phnom Penh (dpa) - A Cambodian man who took off his trousers, tied the legs at the bottom and wrangled a 2-metre cobra into them died when it bit him through the fabric, local media reported Monday.
Khmer-language daily Koh Santepheap quoted police as saying Chab Kear, 36, saw the reptile swimming in a river just outside the capital last Thursday during a drinking session and captured it in the hopes of selling it later in the day.
He tied the animal inside his trousers and a scarf around his waist, but as he continued carousing the enraged snake managed to get its fangs free and bite Kear three times on the stomach.
The newspaper reported Kear's last words as being "don't worry - it's nothing a drink can't fix" before he succumbed to the cobra's venom.

One would really have to twist things to get "trouser snake" out of that story, but it does make for a great headline......and if the snake had only one eye...all the better...LOL!

NAME: Expecteria Trouserius” (Trouser Snake).
LOCATION: Throughout the world.
DESCRIPTION: Varying from pink to black. Fang-less with a highly venomous spit.
Size varies from 3 to 12 inches, depending on its mood & sub-species.
SYMPTOMS: This snake attacks mainly women in the lower front abdomen, resultingin an inconspicuous bump. Then a severe swelling followed by excruciating pain after nine months. The attack is not usually fatal. It has been known to attack men in the rear lower abdomen, resulting in an incurable disease and consequent death.
HABITAT: Usually found in bedrooms, but has been known to appear in the most unusual places.
ANTIDOTE: Various types of vaccine available for women. However, once the venom is injected into the body only drastic measures will ensure complete recovery. There is no known antidote for men.
WHAT TO DO WHEN ATTACKED
TORNIQUE: Do not apply a tornique as the venom is too deep in the body to be affected.
CUTTING THE WOUND: This would be completely unnecessary and ineffective as the bleeding will stop after a few weeks anyhow.
SUCKING THE WOUND: This method is the most popular with the victim, but so far has not been reported to have led to any success.
MILKING THE SNAKE:
1. Place four fingers of the right hand around the neck of the reptile, withthe thumb in the front.
2. Grip firmly and move the hand in an upwards and downwards motion.
3. This will result in the snake becoming highly aggressive and start spitting.
4. The time taken for this milking process depends entirely on the milker and the last time the snake attacked.
5. Once milked the snake should be harmless for about 20 minutes.
CONCLUSION
This snake, although it is very aggressive and active, is not necessarily a vermin, and treated with the right respect, makes a wonderful pet.

SEPTEMBER 7: Police arrested Sor Roeum, 25, and Tes Touch, 25, who killed Yim Sam Ol, 41, in Prey Kantout village, Pursat province. Police said the murder happened after Sam Ol hinted that he had sex with Roeum’s wife while they were drinking wine the previous night. Sam Ol was beaten on the back of his head with a stick and killed with a heavy knife while walking home after being drunk.
SEPTEMBER 9: American, Daniel Jakob Thoreux Divison, 39, and his interpreter Hul Sophoan, 42, were arrested after police found a package of drugs and a little scale while sitting at 4am on Kampuchea Krom boulevard corner street 265 in Teuk Laak 1 commune, Phnom Penh.
SEPTEMBER 10: Kim Hoeun, 77, was murdered at 10:10pm at his wooden house in Kauk Romeat commune, Banteay Meanchey province. Police said Hoeun was shot once in the chest with an AK-47. Police suspected revenge attack was a reason for the killing because villagers were not happy with him as he knows magic and sorcery.
SEPTEMBER 11: Seng Rasmey, 23, a gold vendor, was robbed at 5:10pm while he was in a car parked in front of his house on Sothearous boulevard in Chey Chumnas commune, Phnom Penh. Rasmey told police a man aimed a handgun at his wife and threatened to kill her if she shouted for help while leaving the car and walking home. Rasmey said three robbers escaped on a motorbike after grabbing from his wife two jewelry baskets valued at $80,000.
SEPTEMBER 11: Police are looking for Yeung Arth, 27, who escaped after killing his brother, Yeung Ork, 29, in Neang Teut commune, Kampong Cham province. Police said Ork was chopped seven times with an ax and he died later of massive head injuries at a provincial hospital. Police said Arth was angry after hearing that Ork raped an 18-year-old sister.
SEPTEMBER 13: Sar Prahim, 38, a Muslim widower, was sent to a hospital after acid burned his face in Cheay Sambath village, Kampong Cham province. Police said Prahim had acid water poured on his face while asleep at his house when he was drunk the previous night. Police suspected love affair as the reason for the acid attack because Prahim had left his wife and started a relationship with another woman.
SEPTEMBER 15: Mao Saran, 21, was arrested for a murder she committed two days ago in Tar Phol village, Siem Reap province. Police said Saran killed Thy Kath, 36, a motorbike taxi driver. Saran confessed that she killed Kath because he forced her to have sex like in a pornographic film. Police said Kath was stabbed in the throat and had his neck cut of with a knife while having sex with Saran at a guesthouse where he was found dead.

Darwin Awards in KH? I always thought that's why Michael Hayes ran The Police Blotter in every issue of the PP Post. Unbelieveable the stuff I've read there, not to mention what I personaly saw when I lived in Phnom Penh.
From a family of 5 riding on a single Honda Dream or Sangyang 85cc moto, to the thief who confidently swipes a moto from Psah Tuol Tom Pong at 12 noon (and is instantly stopped and beaten to death by a crowd of 25 people), Darwin Awards were a daily feature of PP life.
How about the guy who tossed a couple grenades into the front room of a well-known Western-owned guest house, then sat on the sidewalk until the "Flying Tigers" arrived moments later and shot him dead? Or the meth dealers who started an afternoon shootout with the PP Police on Plou Sihanouk by Psah Lucky, the holed-up in a nearby storefront until the police finally tossed a few grenades into the shop and did them in? The FUNCINPEC soldiers selling their M-16s to foreigners for $75 to $100? The midnight AK battles in front of the Allston Hotel on Monivong?
That's just the tip of the iceberg, everyday life in PP when I was there.
Too bad I arrived just after the mayor had declared it illegal to walk around downtown PP with an AK hanging from your shoulder.
