Lol! I just caught that! - I’m mortified.

Heh heh. I just felt like I was left hanging there for the rest of the sentence! ;-)

My “rabid fascination” is the fact I LOVE the United States and think it has been the best force for good in the history of the world. I want it to triumph and want its principles of freedom, pursuit of happiness, and innovation to continue. I eventually will migrate LEGALLY to it in the hopes of eventually becoming an American.

Despite being a Canadian, I view the US to be a better nation than my own. I have taught my children not to let themselves be brainwashed in school into thinking we Canadians are morally superior to Americans, and have told them if they wish to join any branch of the US military, that I will support them and be very proud of them.

I am a conservative and libertarian and also a liberal on some issues. I WANT the Republicans to win and dominate all branches of government - I hate big government, liberals who think they have the right to take money from others, and irrationality.

My intended move to the US has been postponed until after the 2010 congressional election - I want to wait and see what happens after the Democrats seize the White House, and what that will do to the economy and to the social stresses in the US. Why? Because I believe the hatred between the left and right, between different races, and even between different religions in the US is only going to get worse. If at all possible, I do not want my children to be exposed to a dangerous environment.

Since you seem to be from Canada, what do you care about American elections?

Why is it some people think non-Americans have no right to put our noses in US politics? Specifically, why shouldn’t I? As Canadians, everytime the US sneezes we get a cold! What happens in the US directly impacts us in our nation.

If this hatred in the US between the left and the right, the blacks and whites, and different religions continues to escalate; it won’t be long until blood is shed once more in the US. What then happens to Canada? We’ll be dragged down as a society together with you. Heck, we’ll be overwhelmed with American refugees fleeing the violence, especially from the cities.

Sounds exaggerated? Perhaps, but should we wait until things get out of hand, especially in black-majority cities filled with people with chips on their shoulders against “whitey”?

I find it humorous at how some “conservatives” are outraged at non-Americans like myself for saying in public what many of you are saying in private. Somehow the fact I was born 40 miles outside the US border magically invalidates what I have to say. Hmmm ...

I did not mean my comment to be disparaging of Canadians, and your comments are quite welcome, athough seemingly a little over the top. In fact I have investments in a couple of Canadian companies in the oil and gas sector that are doing quite well compared to some dogs I own on this side of the border. My Irish ancestors emigrated thru Montreal (Grosse Isle) in 1851, and some of my great-granduncle’s children were born in Toronto.

Bloodshed?? I hardly think were remotely close to that kind of thing in the USA. We had our black race riots in the 1960’s. That era is over. The only remotely possible conflict that might take place is between black and latinos, especially in the Los Angeles area. The gangs, Asian, Black and Latino are virtually at war there today. However, the LAPD and FBI are keeping close tabs on those groups, and have rounded up a bunch of them.

I think the migrant flow, although hard to quantify, is mostly from Canada to the USA, not the other way around. I do not see any scenario where a large flow of Americans would be emigrating to Canada.

Fred has nothing to do with Bush and had been out of politics a while and I think he has a great chance.

Hillary has something like a 52% negative, so I don’t know if that wins elections these days.

I do not see any scenario where a large flow of Americans would be emigrating to Canada.

I do, but not families. It will be mostly single men and from the western states. When it happens, and I am no seer or know what or when, it might be very hard or impossible to get into Canada legally, hard to sneak whole families into a country. Maybe the US will try to prevent people from leaving, did anyone think of that?

For an American to move to Canada, I had the papers once, was considering it myself. I can't remember what all the conditions were, but there were a lot of hoops to jump through, and I wouldn't have been employable in a field that would earn much to live on. Like England, they might let you in if you can prove that you can sustain yourself on your own resources. They seem to welcome impoverished 3rd worlders with open arms, however. Maybe it is different now, that was over a decade ago.

I'm glad the OP didn't get zotted and doubt I share all his political views, it's good to get input from a foreigner, especially as he says, what happens here will affect them. But if he's in the Philippines, maybe it would impact people there, too, depends on how bad.

I may have to hold my nose and vote Republican again depending on who gets the nomination, and if the party moves too much further astray (according to my conditions), I might have to stay home.

I NEVER intend to vote for any Democrat no matter how able he or she may be because although I believe the party still stands for some good, the bad is just too bad. They are so mean and nasty on the web (this site gets accused of it, too) that they are not in the least objective, tolerant and fair-minded.

An election fuelled by hatred such as we have seen from the libs does not bode well for this country at all. Hatred is negative, and you can't accomplish much worthwhile with the hatred or triumphal blinders on.

I've just gone head to head with some liberals, and everything they have accused me of, they are more guilty of themselves, they just can't see it. If I make a mistake, I am not ashamed to admit it if somebody points it out to me politely. How can any person possibly be on top of all the issues? Now I am against free speech. What? I am totally for free speech, but I have a right to exercise my free speech to say things liberals don't like.

I accuse their party as being immoral; they accuse mine of being more immoral for the killing in Iraq and we don't care about the poor. I do happen to care for the poor, may well have rubbed elbows with more of them than the average Republican or Democrat, I happen to believe in welfare as a safety net, and I happen to believe that there are a few people in our country, through no fault of their own, lack the intelligence for gainful employment without some help from the government. I care about working poor families where both parents have to work two jobs with staggered hours to make it on their own.

For the rest of it, yes Clinton ended welfare as we knew it, but there are workarounds and plenty of programs abound despite accusations that Bush cut this, Bush cut that.

If poor from other countries can come in here and make it, why can't more of our own poor do the same? Instead of whining with their hands out? I have had people offer to sell me food stamps; I refuse because it is illegal, then they offer to get me something with them in exchange for money, no dice. Sometimes I just give them a few bucks if I can spare it and if I think it won't go for drugs or booze. And I know not all poor are druggies and boozers, but a lot of them are poor because of that, and they need help IF they really want to change.

What I don't like is the entitlement, you owe me, ingrate attitude. They can't think for the good of the nation and understand that some of their own working poor are having their meager wages confiscated to pay them for doing nothing constructive with their lives even if they can't work. Gambling is a problem in my area, too, has entrapped well-to-do and poor alike.

How to talk to a liberal? My style isn't like Ann Coulter, so I can't talk to them. They have an answer for everything, usually either a hypocritical deceit, stock answer or outright lie.

I do wish that the Republicans could somehow alter and sincerely change the perception that they are the party for big business and don't care about the poor. I was poor once, and I don't know if any liberal cared about me or not. I could count on two hands the people that seemed to care, and it was my family that pulled me through, thank heaven for that.

Didn't Bush reach out and give Katrina victims debit cards? What happened with that?

And I want us out of Iraq and hope to high heaven we can just win and get the heck out of there. I have no desire to see genocide or bloodbath as one poster said if we pull out without victory that will most assuredly happen like after Vietnam. I didn't happen to like that war either, but I sure as heck wanted to win the thing. I SAW what happened after we pulled out.

Sorry for the rant. And I haven't it all together yet, maybe never will, and apologize if I have been unjust or unfair in anything I wrote. Wow, that is way long. I don't write much but when I do, it tends to get pretty wordy. Have to work on that.
