HAMILL PLEADS IGNORANT OVER STAR WARS

Actor MARK HAMILL believes he is the world's worst STAR WARS expert - and knows very little about the movies that made him famous.

The film star - who played Luke Skywalker in the original science fantasy epics - has only seen each of the movies once, and is baffled by fans' obsession with the cult series.

He tells British radio station Heart: "I have failed Star Wars trivia tests.

People come up to me at conventions and use terms that I've never heard of.

"Props from the film that we didn't have names for now have names - Dustbin Robot, he got the name IG54 or something when he became a toy nine months later." He adds: "I say things like 'the blue guy with the trunk' and the fans go, 'Oh, you mean Sy Snootles'… and I have no idea."

If he’s smart he’ll plead insanity for Corvette Summer.

Man, sorry, but that’s just inexcusable. He must immediately go watch the series so he can at least say he’s watched the series twice. Least he could do for us having to watch Star Wars II.

You almost feel sorry for the guy. On the one hand, the movies are huge. On the other, they killed his career. Not everybody was as lucky as Harrison Ford.

Well, good for him. At least he has a life.

I liked Star Wars as a kid but it doesn’t really seem to hold up. If the last of the original trilogy hadn’t of had such a lame ending, I might feel different.

And then the first two episodes of the next trilogy were enough to make one a Harry Potter fan if Doctor Who didn’t already exist.

I guess Ep 3 was pretty bad too but it looked good by comparison to eps 1 and 2.

What, you didn’t like the Ewoks dancing the Macarena for an ending ?

I don’t think Hamill has the acting ability of Harrison Ford. On the other hand that never stopped William Shatner.

I don’t think he goes that way. Or is that the ice skater I’m thinking of.

I had such a crush on him in the late 70’s. Between Star Wars and Corvette Summer...

You are thinking of the figure skater. Hamill (the star wars one) spent most of his post star wars years hanging out with porn stars, as I recall.

The figure skater was Dorothy Hamill.

Got it. Dorothy Hamil, and then the skater who looked like Star Wars guy, but now bald. Blended them together, ha!

I also felt Darth Vader’s redemption was a little too easy. It was so anti-climax compared to Empire.

You know, this makes me like Mark Hamill a little more. A lot more, in fact. Not that I've ever cared about him -- I thought he made a lousy Luke Skywalker. He was too whiny.

And I've watched -- and enjoyed -- the original Star Wars trilogy a zillion times. The later ones -- I saw the first one once, and it was enough. Jar Jar Binks should have been euthanized immediately.

But I met Lucas briefly for a day and to my very great surprise, didn't like him. Further, I got the impression that others around me didn't, either. It was bizarre. The truth is that if I hadn't known who he was, my instinicts would have said: "Steer clear of that guy."

On the other hand, I briefly met and spent a day around William Shatner. To my very great surprise, I liked him. I figured he'd be aloof and rude, but he was the coolest guy in the room -- always the coolest guy in the room -- without even trying. I liked him a lot.

Just shows to go ya ...

There is something about Shatner that makes him seem very approachable and likeable. I think it’s his obvious ability to laugh at himself.

The thing I like about Shatner is that he never took himself too seriously.
