Two of his sons who live nearby said their father had been threatening for months to burn himself and his house.

I doubt the cop had time to stop and think about whether tasering the guy would be a good idea. Hindsight being 20/20 and all.It's sort of like, "Andy, as God is my witness, I didn't know turkeys can't fly!"
