Using a match requires them to get closer than is reasonably safe.
Shooting them just gives liberals another excuse to call for an end to "gun violence".
Tossing a road flare from a safe distance seems like the best choice to me.

I’d bet it was an emergency and the cop was afraid the guy would set himself alight, and kind of instinctively tasered him to stop him.
I doubt the cop had time to stop and think about whether tasering the guy would be a good idea. Hindsight being 20/20 and all.

Was this guy a flaming illegal immigrant?? You would have thought his “wetback” would have extinguished the flames.

They should went to live ammo.

Most OC sprays are nonflammible. All sprays sold to LEO’s have to be certified non flammible.

Just doing the combusting Americans won’t do.

Some stun guns emit an electric spark when they deliver the jolt of electricity. All the ones I've ever seen used deliver a jolt of electricity!
It probably wasn't the smartest thing to zap him with one.

If he wasn’t armed, what kind of wussies do we employ in our overpaid police forces today that would preclude them from just tacking the guy?
Too many females and too many vertically challenged males in blue apparently.

The carrier for OC is alcohol. Many law enforcement agencies were warned about the potential for tasers igniting the carrier before this incident.

I don’t know how accurate your source for this story is, but I have my doubts. This sounds very suspiciously like an urban myth.

"We don't know what ignited the fire," police said. I sure hope they aren't detectives

In any case, I place full blame on the idiot who doused himself with gasoline and then resisted arrest. His actions were a threat of serious injury to everyone around him. His death is the result of his own actions, and officers should not be required to risk being set on fire in order to apprehend him. Right. As someone pointed out earlier, once he doused himself with gasoline, he became a danger to others, justifying the use of lethal force. Machts nichts whether that force was a taser or a service revolver.

Yeah, I just researched it. I think perhaps the problem was with older type OC.
