Paris Hilton not expected to serve full 45-day sentence (4 days maybe)
LA Times ^ | 5/10/07 | Andrew Blankstein, Times Staff Writer

Posted on 05/10/2007 12:36:34 PM PDT by BurbankKarl

Despite being sentenced for 45 days in county jail for violating her probation, socialite Paris Hilton is expected to spend three weeks -- and perhaps less -- behind bars, L.A. County sheriff's officials told The Times today.

Until now, officials have said they believed Hilton would serve the entire jail term ordered last week by Superior Court Michael T. Sauer after Hilton repeatedly drove her car while her license was suspended because of a DUI plea.

Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said Hilton's sentence could be cut nearly in half by state law allowing for credit for time served for good behavior. In addition, he said, overcrowding in the jail system could further reduce the time she spends in custody.

Overcrowding has been a major issue in the L.A. County jail system, with some inmates -- even violent ones -- serving as little as 10% of their sentences. (If that standard was applied to Hilton, she would serve less than a week in jail.)

Actress Michelle Rodriguez, who starred on "Lost," was sentenced to 60 days in jail for a probation violation last year but ended up serving less than a day in jail.

"She will be treated like any other inmate who's classified as a low-level security risk," Whitmore said. "There are a series of issues that will come into play here, including her criminal history, the nature of the offense and the population of the facility."

Using those and other factors "the decision will be made as she is booked into the jail," Whitmore said. "We do this with every single inmate."

Not surprising...before they started deporting the illegals this year, it was not uncommon for a someone who stole a car with no priors to spend one night in County Jail, instead of a month.

Paris ‘seen driving’

Los Angeles - Paris Hilton has been photographed behind the wheel of a car just days after receiving a jail sentence for driving with a suspended licence.

The hotel heiress, who was handed a 45-day jail term last Friday, was apparently seen in her blue Bentley convertible in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Hilton was followed by paparazzi and the 26-year-old is said to have made three u-turns before managing to reach her final destination.

Meanwhile, the heiress has allegedly switched attorneys in a last-ditch attempt to avoid jail.

She has jumped from criminal defence lawyer Howard Weitzman to specialist DUI (driving under the influence) attorney Richard Hutton, according to gossip website TMZ.com.

I don’t think I’d post any more Hilton threads. The last one (a few minutes ago) is locked. Presidio9 has been banned or suspended.

The only reason this slut went to jail was to get publicity to boost her failed career.

I saw that article too.

I can’t believe she’ll get off for good behavior.

What’s so crazy about this is all she had to do is lift a phone and call a limo to drive her around when her license was suspended.

get publicity to boost her failed career

you can't have a "failed career" if you don't have one in the first place, LOL

With her 3 years of high school, I'm surprised that she isn't pontificating on global warming or mideast policy

I have a hard time believing that.

She is pretty dumb. But nobody is that dumb. She knows she has cameras pointed at her 24/7 and would not drive, especially in a convertable, after all this.

Even if she is dumb enough to do it, her stylists or agents or whoever they are ~ her people ~ would not let her do it.

I do not understand why Paris doesn’t just employ a driver ....Under the circumstances . She should find a nice hot young man (also a martial arts expert) to be on call to drive her whereever she needs to go . No shame in that what-so-ever.
She blew her right to drive , so give it up. It beats doing time in the slam !

Ok, on this one it's not the Hilton name that'll get it reduced. This problem is rampant all over the country.

It’s time to start prominsing jobs to the Sheriffs with Hilton Hotel security, and buying protection from the Blood/Crips/MS-13 (whoever).

Probably cheaper than paying attorneys.

I met a guy that was working in CA. He got picked up for DUI, and said he forgot his court date. He called up and they said to come in, and he spent 3 days in county (forget which) since it was the weekend.

You would think that since he was a professional (engineer), and he called, they'd have more suitable people to spend money on for three days, rather than him.

Unless the congresscritters reward states for not having common sense.

Don't know if he was a repeat offender or not.

Paris? High profile, and she showed disdain for the court by showing up late, not to mention violating her the earlier court sentence, and the DMV laws, again...

Let her do the 45.

The article said — Using those and other factors “the decision will be made as she is booked into the jail,” Whitmore said. “We do this with every single inmate.”

Now, the interesting thing here is that the judge did not allow Hilton to choose another jail and pay a daily fee for a better facility. If the judge had allowed that, Hilton would have probably picked another one and then paid (maybe) about $85 per day to stay at another facility (of her choice).

What would that have meant? Well.., that she would have had to stay for her entire stay, because they wouldn’t have had an overcrowding issue at another place where the inmates have to pay $85 a day. Thus, by the judge refusing to let her do that, he basically was *commuting* her sentence... Interesting...

She looks like a spolied little brat, not a slut.

She should get the same treatment anyone else would get, but I’m sue if the average person gets sent to jail because they are driving with a revoked license. Especially somebody with no criminal background.

I think the judge was just pissed off by her attituce.

Well, the attitude of a lot of judges pisses me off. They think they are gods who are empowered to legislate from the bench or use their authority to browbeat citizens.

Look at that moron Judge in Washington D.C. who is suing a Korean dry cleaner for several milion dollars because they lost a pair of his pants (FOX News today.)
