Marin Teen Turns Into Prom-Dressed Crime Fighter
POSTED: 10:35 am PDT April 27, 2007
SAN FRANCISCO -- Superman might have his cape, but Marin Academy sophomore Erin Schrode has a prom dress, tiara and combat boots.
San Francisco police were crediting Schrode with chasing down two thieves while wearing her prom dress, a tiara and combat boots after they allegedly stole a purse and laptop from her friends at a Union Square rally earlier this week.
Schrode and her friends were part of "Project Prom" -- a teen rally for safe cosmetics that was being staged in the middle of San Francisco's shopping district.
"We had done our silent protest It was such an incredible day," she told KTVU. "We were so empowered. We felt invincible. If we could take on the beauty industry, we could take on anyone and at that moment my friend told me her purse had been stolen and then I saw three men grab a laptop. The music went off and they took off."
"At the moment I wasn't going to let them do that. I wasn't going to let anyone ruin this day. I felt like I could catch them."
But it wasn't as easy as Schrode made it sound.
"It was about seven blocks," she said of her chase. "I just took off in my combat boots, my prom dress and tiara...I caught up with one of them and he started crying in front of me. (He) opens his bag and says -- 'I didn't do, I didn't do it!"
Lisa Werthiem was at the event and witnessed Schrode's heroics. She also ran down the street after the thieves.
"Erin just felt like this magnetic energy and I flew toward her," she said. "I'm not sure why I kept running I thought -- 'This guy's got our laptop' -- so we just kept running and screaming police."
Schrode, Werthiem and some bystanders were able to subdue two of the three thieves.
"We caught two," the 16-year-old said. "One them on the corner and he pointed out to his friend yelling -- 'He has it, he has it!'...I took off after his friend and the cops showed up and sent both them down to the station."
Schrode and others found the purse, but the laptop and the third suspect eluded capture.
When asked if she thought about the dangers the thieves may have presented, she said no.
"It never crossed my mind," she said. "The adrenaline was pumping and I just knew I was going to do. I dont know why
Frankly, if you would have asked me four days ago if I could conquer thieves, I would have said no
But it's really empowering to know a 16-year-old can do it."
“...crediting Schrode with chasing down two thieves while wearing her prom dress, a tiara and combat boots...”
What a great visual.
ROTFLMAO
Huh?
> shrug <
ownoe.
Oh, well. Nervy girl, anyway!
I had to reread that carefully. I missed in the first time.
Convenient that it works either way in SF. ROFL
Tard ping
Won’t she be run out of town on a rail for harassing the perps and infringing on their civil rights?
I doubt it. Even in San Francisco, everybody’s going to be laughing too hard at the idea of being chased down by a girl wearing a prom dress and Army-surplus boots.
Got that right.
I didn’t know we had unsafe cosmetics.
Light Blue Eyeshadow.

SEE!!!
They wouldn’t even try that on animals.
That would be the prelude to the show... “WHEN ANIMALS KILL”
titter
You wear blue eye shadow, I know you do!
