Affect as a verb means to influence, effect as a verb means to accomplish a goal, e.g. "effect a change".

Effect as a noun is what you think it is, affect as a noun is a psychological term.

Even educated and literate people can make this common mistake, but still, it's always fun to see the pretentious hoisted on their own petard.

I'm a lot more irritated about when I do it. Tonight I posted a "you're" in the place of "your".
